A Billionaire’s Ruse

Coming To A Decision About Alex

Narrator’s POV

Emily was reluctant to move to the dance floor. She looked at her parents and she could confirm that they were also skeptical.

The Alex that they knew would have ridiculed them just to look good before everyone. And he might still do that.

There is nothing that says he can’t. He’s probably the richest young man in this gathering.

She was still at a loss when an usher came forward to her and offered to lead her to the dance floor.

She could see the weird stares and mocking gaze of the crowd. The young ladies looked at her with nothing short of hatred.

“You look ravaging as ever tonight Emily.” Alexio said as he took her hands and laid a kiss on the back of her hands.

The music started on cue and Alexio maneuvered them both across the dance floor in a slow rhythm.

Emily’s POV

I brace myself. It is now or never. I have to convince him to have a talk with me after the dance.

“I’ve missed you.” Alex said into my ears.

Is he bipolar? Am I hearing him correctly? Well, I’m not falling for that.

“You’re going home with me tonight.” He says again into my ears.

I tried to move away from him but he held me close to him.

“I don’t know what you are up to Alex. But I warn you that it will not work.”

“How sure are you that it won’t?” He said into my ears again

I really want to get away from him now.

“You in this dress is making my head spin so fast and I can not wait to get it off you.”

“What? Not on your life Alex”

He turned me and pressed my backside to his loins and I felt something poke at my back.

What?

“That’s how horney you make me feel.”

I quickly turned back to face him. I am sure I was blushing and I hated myself for that, but is this the same Alex that has no good thing to say to me in the past 8 months we were married? What has gotten into him?

“Alex, I will advise you to stop now. There are many eyes staring.”

“I don’t care.”

“But I do care.”

Thankfully the music changed to a fast paced one and I quickly moved away from him. I looked at him and he had a smirk on his face.

I quickly made my way out of the hall shamefully. I could hear my mother call out my name as she followed me out of the hall.

“Emily, hold on.”

“No mum, go back inside.”

“Emily Kris Thorton, stop where you are right now.” She shouted

I stopped and I was heaving when she came over and held me.

“Come here my love.” She said as she led me to the ladies room.

I feel so confused right now. What is actually going on here?

Alex!!! I practically screamed in my head. He’s playing games with me. How could I explain this latest behavior of his? Everyone in that room believed that the Thorntons were doomed already.

I will not let this go the way he thinks. No. He won’t find it easy taking over my father’s company. We worked so hard to get it to the position it is today. We might not be a big and powerful conglomerate but we are also a sturdy company.

My mum was wiping my face with a napkin as she soothes me. She looks so frail right now. Thank God the restroom is empty.

“Mum.” I called her

She looked up and gave me a sad smile.

“I’m sorry about my outburst earlier. I will make everything good.”

I just remembered that Alex wanted me to go home with him. I cussed out and my mother looked at me disapprovingly. I smiled at her and apologized. When you live with an idiot and cuss-spitting monster for so long, it starts rubbing off on you.

“I’ll be going home with Alex tonight mum.”

“What? No, I can’t have that Emily. What if something were to happen to you? He’s not trustworthy. I won’t allow that.”

“Mum, listen to me. I have to do this. He invited me over. I have to do all I can to make sure that the deadline is shifted forward. We can not afford to chuck out now.

We came here to have a chance at convincing him to postpone the deadline. And that opportunity came when he asked me to go home with him.”

My mum kept looking at me with doubt and worry written all over her face.

“Come on mum. You have to agree in order for me to convince dad to let me go. Just trust me, okay.”

“I won’t take it easy with him if he dares to hit you again.”

“I won’t give him the chance mum.”

My mum drew me to herself and hugged me while patting my back.

“Let’s go out now.” I said holding her hands and leading her out.

On our way out we saw my dad, he was waiting just a few feet away from the door. When he saw us, I could see him breathing a sigh of relief. He came closer to us and held my hand.

“I was almost at 100.”

“What? 100 what dad.”

“I was counting to 100. If you nor your mother comes out before I count 100, I was gonna break down that door. Not caring if it’s for the ladies or not.”

“Dad. Thank God you didn’t. We can’t add an arrest to what is going on now.”

“I know Emily. But the way you left the hall and your mother had to follow you out. Then you guys took too long returning and I came out to search for you guys but I didn’t see you…” my dad was

“That’s okay Robert. We are both okay.”

“Dad, I won’t be going home with you tonight.”

“What does that mean? Where will you be going?”

I looked at my mum. She has to be the one to tell him. I know my dad will not listen to me.

“We are going home while she will be going to Alex’s place tonight.” My mum said while dragging my dad away.

“Thank you mum.” I mouthed at her.

“Call me. Be careful” She mouthed back.Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.

I watch as they both leave. I made my way back to the hall. As I got closer, I could feel the high spirit from the guests as they all mingled and chatted with each other. This was me a year ago.

There was no worry and I was at the height of my youth. Everything was so perfect back then.

I need to find Alex. Only if I can get to talk to him here and don’t have to go ‘home’ with him.

But I was shocked by the sight that met my eyes.
