A Billionaire’s Ruse

Not Arranged Marriage

“He came to my office and insisted that we have a new structure around our deal. He came up with a sudden change of plans” I said to him.

” What is the new development?” he asked me

“Hr is including my daughter as part of the deal” I said to him

“What? Why will he include your daughter as part of the deal” he said to me bewildered by the revelation

“I do not know what he wants to achieve by doing that” I said to my lawyer

“what does he wants?” my lawyer asked me

“He wants to have my daughter as his bride. He claims that he loves her and will love to make her his wife.” I said to him

“Just that?” he asked me looking surprised. If only he was patient enough to hear the other part of my story

“I wish it was that simple,” I said to him. “Yes, he said he would only receive 40% of the share and he offered to make available an extra $500 million if only I am willing to convince my daughter to get married to him” I said to my lawyer.

“That is obviously a trap I must warn you. I see no reason why he should be making such a huge offer if he does not have some evil plot behind his offer” he said to me.

“I thought as much. This is why I did not accept his offer immediately” I said to him weighing my options if I should truly tell him about the legal actions Alexander promised to take against me.

“But that is not all.” I said to him

“Really, what else?” My lawyer asked

“He did not actually make an offer but a threat. He threatened to take legal actions against me if I do not consent to his demand by framing me up for being involved in criminal activities using the money deposited into the company’s account as evidence” I said to him

“I can tell you that he has really spent time to plan this out” my lawyer said to me

“Definitely, this is not a one day plan” I said to my lawyer

“hmm” he replied

“what do we do from here?” I asked him

“do you have any recording of your transaction the last time he paid a visit to your office?” he asked me

I sat down to think very hard. There was no tangible evidence aside the fact that he paid me a visit to my office.

“I do not have any tangible evidence available to present at the moment” I said to him.

“Can I be factual with you right now Robert. You have no other option than to give in to his request. You do not have the resources to go through another litigation.

“If your company is to go through litigation as it did two years ago, you might just as well bid your company goodbye. And not only that, if any news spreads about your company negatively right now, your stocks will pay dearly for it.”

“I know all these Mr. Chang. But I was hoping to get a way out from you.”

“I’m sorry Robert. There is so much I can do right now. Have you spoken to Anderson? He might have a solution.”

“I’ve not been able to reach him for the last two weeks now. I believe he is out of the country or something.” I sure sounded dejected right now. There is no way out anywhere

“Robert, this is my sincere advice. Create an atmosphere where Emily meets with Mr. Pierce and see if the spark will fly. Then you should make your decision when you see them together.”

“Alright Oliver. Thank you for your time.” I said and hung up the call.Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.

A heavy weight seems to be lifted up my chest. I just need to get home and run this plan through Sarah. I believe she will be okay with it. I’m not pushing my daughter off to a man, I’m only looking out for the company and my family.

I quickly stood up and made my way out of the office. My secretary has left earlier and so have some of the workers.

I check on Emily and she has left already. I miss those days when she waits for me so we both leave work together. But ever since she got her car, she always leaves anytime she wants and I believe the new series that she is hooked on is also affecting her choice to wait for me.

“Goodbye Mr. Thorton.” The security guard said to me and I smiled at him in acknowledgement. He has always been a cheerful one.

I got into my car and drove off. I can proudly say that I am among the few elites who still drives himself around. I find so much joy in the fact that I still drive myself anywhere I want to go.

I planned out how I was going to put this to Sarah.

She has been so supportive towards me and the company. We started it from scratch together and we made our daughter fall in love with architecture. And it was only possible because of Sarah. I just hope I don’t break her trust with this. I needed her to believe in what I can do right now more than ever.

I placed my feet on the accelerator and zoomed in at a moderate speed home.

Once I got home, I parked the car and alighted the car. My wife was there to greet me as she has always been for the past two decades.

“Welcome Robert.” She said in a way of welcome, kissing me on my lips and hugging me.

“Thank you my love.” I replied as she took the briefcase from me. We both walked inside and true enough Emily was glued to the television screen, but she stood up to greet me. I sat down with her on the sofa as Sarah excused us.

I decided to go all out and taste the water in order to gauge her reaction.

“I have finally found the solution to our company’s major problem.” I told her

“Wow, I am so happy dad. Tell me more about this.”

So, I went ahead and told her everything and

“Erm… well he also likes you.” There, I said it. But the look on Emily’s face was incredulous.
