Chapter 18
Clyde Dante
I walked into the house after me and my dad were hanging out. I ran upstairs planning to ask Beverly to go to dinner together. I walked into my room and my whole body froze.
I looked around and found no Beverly. Not only Beverly but all of her clothes… I ran downstairs immediately and my grandmother stopped me on the bottom of the staircase.
“Looking for Beverly?” She asked.
“Of course, she’s my fiance.”
“She went back to New York.” My eyes widened when grandma said that.
“What? What do you mean she went back to New York.”
“She’s your fake fiance.” Grandma said and my eyes widened even wider.
“What?” My dad asked and my mom appeared from the kitchen glaring at me.
“She told you?”
“No… I knew it from the start.” Grandma said.
“What?” I asked her disbelief and she nodded. She gestured to me to sit in the living room. I sat down across her and she sighed.
“She doesn’t look happy these days, didn’t you notice that?” Grandma started.
“Wait wait… I don’t understand.” My dad said as he put Cooper on his lap.
“Your son brought a fake fiance just to-”
“Don’t judge me just yet, mom. You don’t know anything.” I said cutting her and then I turned to grandma again.
“She loved it here but you’ve been keeping her here and never even care about her.” Grandma said and I raised her eyebrows.
“I knew it from the start and I confirmed it more when you told me you will go to the seaworld with her. I have spies everywhere, Clyde. You went to a renting car and the owner of that place is my friend.” She bursted angrily.
“You talked to Anna a lot when I had my birthday party when she’s busy cleaning up things! You even let her sleep on the sofa! You never cared… Clyde! These days you’ve been seeing Anna again and asked her to lie to us. My friend saw you with Anna 7 times! You still want to lie to me that she’s your fiance?” Grandma bursted angrily. My mom calmed her down and grandma looked at me in disbelief.
“Do you know why I bring her here?” I asked her as I turned to my dad and mom.
“Because you kept forcing me to get married all the time… and even wanted to set me into an arrange marriage. I hate it. I want to live my life a little bit. I’m here because you begged me to. I’m just trying to make you happy beside… why do you care about Beverly so much? Do you know who Beverly is?”
“We talked all night and I know everything. I know everything about her… do you?”
“What? Why should I care?”
“Let him be.” My dad said suddenly and I turned to him weirdly.
“Huh? Let him be?” Grandma asked my dad disbelief.
“Yeah… let him be.” My dad said as he nodded.
“Fred, are you nuts?” My mom asked.
“She left but still you need to stay here for another 7 months.” My dad said and I sighed.
“I’m resting for work and since you all already know about Beverly, why don’t you let me go back to New York?” I asked and they shook their heads.
“I want to see you get crazy.” My dad said as he got up from the sofa.
“Crazy? Crazy for what?”
“I never raise you to be like this, Clyde.” My mom got up too.
“What? What did I do? I’m doing this because I want to make grandma happy.”
“I’m happy but you make someone else unhappy.”
“Besides… it’s her job. Her job is to flirt, kiss… have sex so she can break up someone’s relationship to get money.”
“She’s a virgin, you idiot! She never even have a boyfriend. You’re the first person that she trust… I can’t believe you said that.” My grandma bursted angrily and looked at me disbelief.
“So? Why should I care?”
“Oh you will care…” She said and then they all left me alone in the living room. I ran my hands through my hair completely frustrated. I walked up to my room and looked at the whole room. It’s clean.
I walked to my bed planning to take a rest but my eyes landed on a white envelope with my name written on it. I took it and opened it.
Hey Clyde,
When you see this, I’m probably gone.Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
Sorry for not telling you that I will leave LA.
I know I still owe you a lot, I signed a contract with you and agreed with you to be there for one year but I decided to leave. Don’t worry, I will send a new car for you to your house later on and a new phone. I guess you’re free now, I talked to grandma to not pressure you to get married and let you have your own life. She agreed so you don’t have to worry about it anymore. Thankyou for giving me such beautiful memories here in LA. I’m so jealous that you still have a family that care and love you so much. Please don’t blame grandma for this, it’s entirely my fault. Besides you’ve been hanging out with Anna again these days, you don’t need me anymore. Thankyou Clyde for everything and sorry for not telling you that I’m leaving. I just felt weird these days and I want to go back to New York to clear things up. Maybe one day, I will go back to LA and visit you sometimes… if you don’t hate me. Thankyou once again Clyde.
P. s the ring is in the envelope.
Your friend,
Beverly.
I looked at the letter disbelief and I ripped it. I ripped it into small pieces and threw it to the bin. What kind of bullshit is she giving me right now? I sat on the bed and let my body fall to the bed. I looked up to the ceiling and closed my eyes.
“Well… I don’t need her anymore.”
