Dear Contract Wife, You Are Mine

Chapter 28

Title: Cravings

Maybelline Walter POV

I tossed on the bed for the umpteenth time, unable to sleep no matter how I forced myself to. It was already past 11pm and I was supposed to have been asleep by now, but the incident from earlier kept replaying in my head every time and I couldn’t help myself.

Why was he like that? I asked myself the same question yet again, but couldn’t come up with the possible reason he was like that.Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.

“Maybe he’s in love with you,” a part of me had that thought, but I was quick to dismiss the thought because I was sure that it was the last thing that could happen. No way Miles could be in love with me.

Twenty minutes passed before my eyes finally became heavy, and I didn’t try to fight the sleep as I had been waiting for it almost all day.

I didn’t sleep for long before my hurting stomach jolted me out of my deep sleep, and I tiredly sat up on the bed. My stomach grumbled, reminding me that I didn’t have dinner earlier before I slept off. I just went straight to my room when we arrived at home.

“Just hold it in, May. You can do it,” I thought I could fight the hunger and the crazy craving to have rice and stew, but it didn’t work. I literally imagined myself eating the food, and you know what that meant. It wasn’t a craving I could just get rid of without satisfying it.

My body hurt as I dragged myself from the bed and tiredly strode out of my room. My body hurt like hell, but still, I needed to eat.

I almost jumped out of my skin as I descended the staircase minutes later and found Miles seated in the living room.

“Are you ok?” He turned to me and asked, and I scoffed.

“You startled me,” I admitted, and he put his laptop away. He stood up and walked over to me.

“Are you ok? Why are you awake? It’s past 1am,” He glanced at the wall clock and turned to me again.

“Nothing… I just came to get water…” I could barely finish my statement when my stomach sounded again, contradicting my answer.

“You are hungry?” He asked, and I bit my bottom lip.

“Hmm,” I nodded shyly, and he scoffed.

“Are you pregnant? It’s only pregnant women that get hungry in the middle of the night,” He asked with a serious expression on his face, and my heart missed a beat.

“Wh… what do you mean?” I stuttered and panicked for a moment. Did he find out that I was pregnant?

“I’m just kidding,” He replied to me casually. How was he kidding when he didn’t even smile or laugh?

“Maybe it was just a dry joke,” I concluded.

“What do you want to eat?” He asked.

“Rice and stew… I want to eat white rice and stew,” I replied to him, and his face went bland.

“White rice and stew? In the middle of the night? Now, I’m really suspicious of you. Are you sure you are not pregnant?” He stepped closer to me and asked with a serious expression on his face, and I huffed nervously.

“Who said that I’m pregnant?” I scoffed nervously and turned my face away.

“Why are you even talking to me? We are not that close,” I rolled my eyes at him and started walking into the kitchen just so I could avoid talking to him, but he went after me into the kitchen.

“I was just kidding around with you. I will make you white rice and stew. Do you want a smoothie first?” He asked as he opened the cabinet and brought out the ingredients for the food.

“I thought you were doing something just now. I can handle this,” At least I wanted to be considerate even though I didn’t mean it. I was so tired and could barely lift a finger, so he would be doing me a lifetime favor if he cooked the food for me.

“I will handle that later,” He replied to me and began dishing out the ingredients, ready to start cooking.

“You should drink this first,” He got me a smoothie from the refrigerator.

“Thank you,” I muttered.

I sat on the tall chair in the kitchen and watched him cook. I couldn’t help but admire him. He looked so perfect.

“You are going to distract me if you keep staring at me like that,” I almost choked on the smoothie when his voice came on. How the heck did he know that I was staring at him? Even though I was confused, I turned my face away.

I tried hard to keep my face away from him, but I ended up looking at him every time. The way his hands moved perfectly as he did the cooking. It wasn’t supposed to be sexy, but fuck! I couldn’t help it.

‘She is my woman and mine alone’ I bit my bottom lip and smiled to myself when those words replayed in my head. Damnit! I think I’m losing my mind.

“You are not looking bad, after all. You are cute,” I blurted out before I could hold the words back, and he stopped abruptly and winced.

“Are you ok?” I jumped down the chair and hurried over to him, but my eyes narrowed in shock when I saw his hand bleeding. He had cut his finger while chopping pepper.

“Shit! Why weren’t you careful?” I blamed him as I subconsciously took his hand and blew a gentle breeze on it, but the bleeding didn’t stop.

“You are still bleeding… What do we do?” I felt like crying as I freaked out at the blood on his finger. I didn’t know why I was suddenly so emotional, but I felt a sting in my heart and it hurt so much.

“Don’t worry about it… I’ll be fine. I’ll treat it late…” I didn’t allow him to finish his statement before I took his hand to my mouth and curved my lips around his bleeding finger. I sucked it and twirl my tongue around it not minding that it wasn’t healthy.

“What if he has an infection?” I asked myself, but even so, I wasn’t going to let go. Maybe I’ve gone crazy…
