CHAPTER 20
=- Dale’s POV=-
Earlier, I yelled at Amber for overstaying at the pool, as if, she was trying to seduce my friend, Jacob. She was just supposed to give my friend a towel, but she dared to start a conversation with Jacob while knowing it would be dangerous for both of them if their secret would be revealed.
“Dale, is there something wrong? You look furious over something,” Jacob asked.
“Why do you think I am furious, Jacob?” I responded with a question.
“Come on, Dale! We have been friends for a long time and I saw how you look at your servant,” he teased me because of Amber.
“She’s just a maid,” I told him.
“A very beautiful maid,” Jacob stated a fact. “Actually, I don’t understand why you are so cruel to the woman, dude. Isn’t she your mate? I thought you will be happy to find her at last!”
“Why, Jacob? Were you happy to find your mate?” I responded with another question and Jacob immediately frowned.
Before meeting the love of his life, Jacob has a mate named Ruby, and he was engaged to the woman. However, Jacob didn’t love Ruby. Or maybe at that time, he wasn’t ready to get married yet. When his father forced him into the union, he ran away from the pack and became a rogue.
As a rogue, he found his calling and then he became the youngest Mayor in the city of Claybourne. When Jacob ran away, Alpha Marcus couldn’t choose another heir, and instead of having one of his illegitimates succeed him, Alpha Marcus revived the omega pregnancy program.
All women who were omegas were groomed to become his women, and omegas who reached the age of eighteen were required to sleep with Alpha Marcus. It was the darkest era in the pack, where women were forced to mate with the Alpha and to bear him a child…without knowing that Alpha Marcus could no longer father a child.
Several women from the omega class have died through suicide, and some were imprisoned in the dungeon after failing to become pregnant. Then, Amber McBride’s time to become one of the Alpha’s women has come, and everything was ruined!
Amber McBride overheard us talking about the real health condition of the Alpha, and then she boldly asked me to fuck her and to make her pregnant. At that time, it was a crazy proposal but I wasn’t in my right mind that time. Her beauty was mesmerizing so when she asked with those eyes, I couldn’t say no to the woman.
Then, I couldn’t get enough of her!
“Hey, Dale! Are you listening?”
“Oh yeah, what is it?”
“Why are you cruel to Amber, dude? If you don’t want her, you can always give her back to me,” Jacob said.
“Bite your tongue, Jacob. It’s not going to happen,” I told him.
“Oh, man. Just relax. Amber is not my type,” Jacob clarified.
I didn’t respond to his statement. I just glared at him, until Jacob narrowed his eyes at me.
“Dale, what’s gotten into you? I told you she’s not my type!”
“Good! Because she’s mine,” I declared but Jacob just laughed at my statement.
“Relax, Dale,” Jacob said but I couldn’t relax when it comes to Jacob. “Anyway, are you sure she’s going to bring us food? I am hungry,” he complained.
“She’s probably on her way right now,” I assured Jacob.
Earlier, after snapping at Amber, I instructed her to come back with our lunch.
So, as expected, when I saw her coming toward us, I smiled. Then, my eyes focused on her as she placed the tray with food on the table nearby. She set the table efficiently.
“Do you need anything else, Dale?” she asked.
“Please clean the pool again while Jacob and I will have our lunch. Did you see those leaves?”
It was true that were a few leaves in the swimming pool but those leaves didn’t come from the trees nearby. I put those leaves there so that she wouldn’t be able to rest while I am entertaining Jacob.
“Okay, noted on that, Dale,” she answered as if she knew the reason why there were leaves in the water.
When Jacob and I walked toward the table where Amber placed our lunch, she immediately went to the edge of the pool to clean to start cleaning. She adjusted her uniform so that she could work comfortably.
The leaves were mostly in the middle of the pool, so it would be challenging for her to get those leaves.
“Are you done, Amber?” I asked in a loud voice so that she could hear me but she seemed oblivious to her surrounding and focused on the task at hand.
“I think she didn’t hear you, Dale,” Jacob commented.
“That’s right, I think I should go to her,” I said.
“Then, I will eat ahead of you. I am starving, dude.”
“Go on,” I said before walking toward Amber who was standing at the edge of the pool.
She was surprised when I called her name as I approached her, and then she frowned at me.
“Do you need anything, Dale?” she asked.
“What took you so long to clean the pool, Amber?”
“I’m sorry but the leaves are in the middle, so it’s a little difficult to get all of them with this leaf skimmer, Dale,” she explained.
“Are you really stupid? Can’t you swim?” I snapped at her without a valid reason, then I pushed her into the pool.
She was struggling in the water, but I thought she was just faking it, then my eyes widened when the realization hit me that she really couldn’t swim.
“Help! Help me!” she screamed for help while trying to swim toward the edge.
Even though I saw how much she struggled in the water, I didn’t dare to jump into the pool to help her. She struggled to catch her breath, and her chest probably hurt for trying so hard. However, I just keep on standing at the edge before walking away.
I abandoned her while she was struggling to get out of the water. Suddenly, I couldn’t move my legs. I turned around to watch her one more time, and her eyes were closed.
As her body gradually sank under the water, I saw Jacob running toward the pool, and without any hesitation, Jacob jumped into the water and rescued Amber from drowning.
“Are you alright?” he asked Amber.
When Jacob positioned Amber on the ground and prepared the woman to receive a mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, my eyes widened in shock. I was watching when Jacob pinched her nose, but before his mouth could touch her lips, I was immediately there to stop him.
“Allow me, Jacob,” I said.
“I am fine now,” she stated, and for a moment, I wondered if she was just faking her struggles earlier just to get the attention of Alpha Jacob!
Then, she stood up, and leave after saying her thanks to Jacob. I was so dumbfounded when Amber walked away as if she didn’t see me. When I glanced at Jacob, he chuckled.
I was embarrassed when Amber rejected my help in front of Jacob. I was so ashamed of Jacob.Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
“Follow her, dude. She’s angry at you,” Jacob said.
