The Little Minx
“So, where are we going to have dinner? I am excited.” Amber said, beaming with excitement. She does not have any idea what’s in for her tonight. She thought they would go somewhere to a nice restaurant…a dinner date perhaps. She is already mentally thinking about what they are going to do at the restaurant. She imagines Devlin, her handsome date, talking some sweet nothings to her. But she stopped herself…Devlin never really talked about sweet nothings to her. She felt that he has changed a lot towards the way he treats her but there was no sweet talk from him. The kind of words that any woman would love to hear from their man. She forgot that he is not exactly her man. He is her husband only in papers. She got slightly disappointed but tried to hide her disappointment.
She looked at Devlin. He looks happy and she does not want to ruin the mood tonight for both of them just because she entertained some negative thoughts.
“Are you ready?” Devlin stopped her from her line of thoughts. She merely nodded at him.
Devlin led her to the back part of the cabin. The cold air suddenly enveloped her. It was too dark to even see except for the starry night.
“What are we doing here? Did you park your car here? It is too dark. I barely can see anything.” She only heard Devlin’s light chuckles all the while holding her hand.
“Relax, my curious little minx.” She heard him whisper into her ear. His breath brought shivers to her entire body. It was cold but she did not get the shivers earlier. She could only be heard sighing deeply. She does not like the darkness. It is just something that she is not used to ever since she lost her father and her mother left. She even had her room with lights on, all the time at night.
“Are we getting close to the car?” She asked while they slowly walked somewhere. Devlin was gently guiding her. She heard some light noises. When she was about to ask again, the lights suddenly turned on.
Amber was not prepared to see the patio. It was decorated nicely with the nice curtains to the sides and lots of flower potted plants. They were arranged neatly. And in the middle of the patio, there is a round table for two. The light orange hue from the light bulbs made the patio a great place for a date. She saw the electric fireplace to the side to keep them warm. She smiled to herself. Devlin really did not miss any small details.
He pulled a chair for her. She went to sit down. She is still looking around the decorated patio with amazement when someone comes to serve them some wine.
“How did you pull off all of these? This is really more than what I expected for dinner. I thought we were going out somewhere, like a restaurant nearby.” She continued babbling with excitement in her voice. Even her eyes glow with happiness from what she just saw.Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
Devlin, on the other hand, was just staring at her beautiful face. He likes how her eyes glow when she gets excited. He likes listening to her voice full of enthusiasm.
Amber did not get her answer from Devlin since another person came in to serve them their dinner. And the most exciting part, a piano is playing from the inside of the cabin. The door was fully opened so she could see the pianist playing some classic music. She smiled dreamily. In her head, she thinks this is just the perfect date she could ever experience. ‘Is it really a date?’ A part of her head questioned Devlin’s motive. She had to shake off her negative thoughts.
“Thank you. I could not say anything else but…amazing.” She blurted out while giggling.
“I am glad you like it. I had like more than an hour to prepare all of these. And these people here came from the lodge. I asked them to help me. I could have cooked us some dinner but I know that there is no time to finish everything in two hours. Besides, you would wake up by then.” Devlin said never taking his gaze away from Amber’s face. She felt his intense stares and that made her all the more uneasy. She doesn’t know if she looks good enough. Nevertheless, she resolves to enjoy this great dinner that Devlin prepared for her. Her heart truly warms up to his gesture. If there is anything, she has deeply fallen into him.
Amber doesn’t know what is going on around Devlin’s head at the moment. He was simply admiring her for everything. Not just her looks but the way their ‘relationship’ is heading. He feels that he made the right decision to spend more time with her. It is not that hard to fall for her. And if he compares his past interactions with other women, this is by far the best one. He thinks he has never invested this much into someone other than Amber.
He can’t compare the feelings he had with Raven. It was a young love that fell apart since they have grown apart. They were not able to sustain the emotions they thought they had for each other. But with Amber, he feels like he is changing for the better. He feels that regardless of their situation, he has that feeling of contentment with Amber. He is a hypocrite not to acknowledge that a few days ago he was ready to ditch her. He even hurled disgusting insults towards her. He is not a monster not to see her unwavering care and resilience despite what he did to her. He sighed deeply. This is not a good time to reminisce about the past.
They ate in silence while looking at each other from time to time with smiles on their faces. They are just enjoying the moment while a beautiful song is being played in the background.
“I thought that dinner at the yacht was the best dinner I have ever been to. I thought nothing could surpass that but it did. This is definitely the best dinner ever. Everything is perfect down to the last detail…the food, the decorations, the music. Thank you for making one of my fairytale dreams come true. I felt like I was transported to a different place and time. This is very ro…” Amber’s eyes widened when she realized what she was about to say.
Devlin’s wrinkled forehead is visible, waiting for her to finish her statement but she chose to stay quiet after that. She pretended to admire the music while closing her eyes.
“Do you mean to say its romantic ambience?” Devlin broke her reverie. She opened her eyes and her flushed face was evident.
“Yeah you could say that.” She almost whispered her words.
“Hmmm…” Devlin cleared his throat. He slightly shook his head for acting like a lovesick teenager.
“Would you like to dance?” He offered his hand while standing. Amber only smiled and giggled.
Devlin took a bow looking like a gentleman and he positioned himself with breast out and put his hands upwards in an exaggerated manner. Amber giggled more at his gestures. She played along with him. She bowed down and then let him pull her closer to him the moment she put her hands on his chest. He gently moved his left hand on her tiny waist.
“Hmmm… I never thought that you are a good dancer.” Devlin was looking at her intently but there’s a smile lurking in his eyes.
“I am not.” She laughed heartily. “I just followed your steps.” They both stared at each other for a while. It was Amber who could not stand the way he looked at her.
“I know I already told you this before but I still want to say it again. I am sincerely sorry for hurting you. And I hope that you could give me a chance to treat you the way you deserve.” His words are music to his ears. Right in that moment, she could only hear his words kept replaying in her head. The music in the background was suddenly muted.
‘Is this true? Is it fine to imagine that at least at this moment, their feelings are in tune with each other? That they are actually a couple who are in love with each other? She would like to think so at least for this moment. She wants to indulge herself. And whatever happens after that, at least she has this moment that she will cherish for as long as she can remember.
“And like I said, let’s just forget about that. I want to enjoy this dance with you.” And she playfully winked at him which made him chuckle.
They continued dancing until they both got tired. They went to this small sofa that would only fit two people. With the slightly dimmed lights, the atmosphere turned different. It feels like there is tension in the air the moment they sit down next to each other. Devlin was hugging her from behind. It does not only feel romantic but Amber feels something is heating up from her insides. She is definitely well aware of how Devlin was making circle strokes on her right palm. He pulled her more towards him which made her lean back on his chest. She felt his heart beating regularly while hers is like she is running in a marathon. Devlin felt her stiffened slightly. He knew too well that she is a bit uncomfortable with their position but that does not stop him from getting closer to his wife.
He feels the urge to not just know her feelings but to get connected to her physically. He slightly sniffed her hair with her familiar smell of shampoo.
“Hmmm…” It was like a whisper but Amber heard it well. She turned around to look at him but that was a mistake. His face was so close to hers that for a few seconds they simply stared at each other seriously. Devlin could not stop staring at her lips. The lip tint has long been gone but her lips are naturally pinkish. For a moment, he had the sudden urge to taste those luscious lips. And slowly he moved down his head. He did not feel any resistance from her. So, he continued what he had in his mind. He felt her soft lips slowly brushed against hers. Automatically, they both closed their eyes at once.
Devlin’s lips were touching hers gently at first until they pressed further. Amber could not resist the gentle kisses from him and she just gave in, lost in her own fairytale. The kiss went deeper. She responded to his kisses with equal fervor. They kissed for a while until she felt his hand rubbing her side. She pressed herself further. Then, she realized what she just did. For a few minutes, she lost herself in those hot kisses they shared. She forgot about the people around them. They must be somewhere in the cabin. She suddenly felt shy of what happened between them. She is still shaking from that high sexual tension that she just experienced.
Devlin simply looked at her with hooded eyes, the tension still visible on his face. And to make things worse, Amber suddenly touched something by accident when she tried to move away from his tight grip. Her hand landed on something that is bulging down there. That made her gasp and suddenly stood up. She made an excuse to use the restroom. She immediately left him without waiting for his reply.
Devlin was staring at Amber as she quickly got inside the cabin. She almost stumbled on her way but good thing she quickly regained her balance. He was smiling to himself. ‘I think I am enjoying being married to that little minx.’
