“I didn’t expect you to come to an event like this.” The girl who looked elegant wearing a white midi dress with a cape studded with expensive sequins, seemed to be enjoying the evening atmosphere in this spacious house. ah, no. not just spacious, but grand and arguably luxurious. The dimly lit garden lights added to the atmosphere of the place where they spent their time, after the boring dinner.
“That expression should be for you.” The interlocutor gently swayed the wine that was his companion. Sipping slowly, savoring the liquid that slowly greeted the tongue. The sweetness and bitterness were balanced creating an intoxicating harmony. But the man rarely allowed himself to be controlled by wine. He only enjoyed savoring the flavors of the wine that was one of his father’s collections in this house.
“I have to meet my fiancé after three years,” the girl said flatly. Her eyes gazed up at the dark night sky which, although beautiful with stars, could only be enjoyed by her from a distance.
“You’re not happy?”
The girl turned her head, looking at the man with an unreadable expression. Then she chuckled. She didn’t care about the night breeze that suddenly hit them. there was a bit of curiosity she had, related to the attitude of a man who should be warm to the opposite sex. Unfortunately, she had too high expectations. The man sitting beside her didn’t care. Instead, he was engrossed in his glass of wine as if he was not here.
“Why would I feel happy? My work in Manchester has been disrupted.” He prepared to go inside. The wind was quite cold, she didn’t want her return to her hometown to end up in the hospital. The clothes she wore weren’t too warm either.
“You want to go back inside already?” asked the man-Andrew chuckled. “Don’t want to keep me company for a while longer?”
“No,” Fania Langham would not withdraw her desire to go back inside. “It’s quite cold in here. I’m with a man who is completely insensitive to the plight of women.”
“Why would I do that for you?” Andrew still maintained his silly laugh. “Go inside and have a good time listening to the many lectures on marriage. Also find a good excuse to postpone our wedding.” He downed the remaining wine. Leaning back comfortably on the chair he was sitting on, not caring if the girl actually carried out her intentions.
“Take off your blazer then! I’m cold,” Fania snapped fiercely. She facepalmed with a look of disapproval because what Andrew had just said was the reality of what would happen if she stepped inside. It sounded scary but that was what would happen if she left Andrew alone in this place.
Fania didn’t want to get herself into trouble. She had to keep dragging Andrew along no matter what because really, her return this time wasn’t to agree to the engagement. Who would want to marry a man as annoying as Andrew? Never!
If it wasn’t for their parents’ long-established business, there was a project they wanted to pursue that involved both of their children. As successors, there was nothing they could do but comply. Especially for Andrew, who was in a position where it was impossible to argue. Not yet. He still had a lot of things to think about if he openly denied whatever his father wanted.
Fania was no different. If she didn’t do what her parents wanted, all her activities in Manchester would have to stop. Meanwhile, the beautiful girl still needed a lot of support from her parents. For how long, Fania didn’t know, but she kept trying not to hurt anyone, including her own heart.
“Put it on,” Andrew said as he took off his blazer. He returned to staring at the sky, which was still as dark as it had been since he and Fania had first arrived in the park.
“You’re too much,” Fania murmured as she put on the man’s blazer and found it comfortable. Warm and much better than before.
“Next time choose clothes that fit in the month before winter. That’s something you don’t know.” Andrew snorted in displeasure. He cast a quick glance at the girl who had returned to sit beside him.
But it seemed to have fallen on deaf ears as the girl became engrossed in her cell phone. But Andrew didn’t care. He could have done the same but one thing Andrew knew; they were being watched. Either way, Andrew knew there were many pairs of eyes on their closeness. As if one wrong report could get them, no… get Andrew in big trouble.
The dinner, which lasted an hour, ended smoothly. According to them, Andrew or Fania’s parents. But to both of them, the dinner was like a legal verdict they didn’t want to go through with. From the beginning, Fania and Andrew had agreed and thought that in the future, things would change and their parents would no longer be so insistent about marriage.
Unfortunately, that thinking doesn’t apply. It’s just more suffocating and they can’t break it down easily.
“We need to figure out how to end this ridiculous relationship, Fania,” Andrew said in a slightly serious tone. Andrew’s words drew great attention from the other person.
“You’re right,” Fania replied, pocketing her phone again. “Sorry, I have to reply to a message from my lover.”
“Ugh!” Andrew patted his chest lightly. “You hurt my feelings, Fania. I’m your fiancée but you cheated on me behind my back.”
“You’re crazy,” Fania sneered sarcastically. “But you’re right. I agree with you about us ending this crazy relationship.”
“I just found out that a shy lady like you has a lover.”
Fanis looked at Andrew with a glare. “You think I can’t feel love?”
Andrew chuckled. He had gotten the information about his fiancée down to the root. It wasn’t difficult to know because he worked in a place where such trivial things could be obtained easily. Even about the cooperation that would be established if their marriage actually happened. All she could do now was delay, until Andrew found a way to settle things without the need for marriage.Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
“How fortunate your lover is,” Andrew said with sincerity.
“You know?” she asked with a look of disbelief. But then, her amazement quickly vanished. “You found out about her? To make me even more immobile from Mommy’s watchful eye?”
“You think I’m that sneaky?” Andrew shot Fania an annoyed look. “I still have my limits when it comes to committing crimes. And what you’re accusing me of is quite annoying, Fania.”
Fania’s lips closed immediately. “I’m sorry.”
Andrew chuckled in annoyance. “Forget that conversation. Let’s focus on canceling this wedding immediately. You don’t want to marry me either, right?”
“Absolutely not.” Fania said confidently. That was the honesty in her heart. Her acquaintance with Andrew had been quite casual. She chose another man, one who was not in the business world. But loved things that fascinated Fania. As an art lover, working in a museum in Manchester, meeting photographers was an everyday occurrence. But this lover of hers, captivated Fania in such a simple way.
Admittedly, Andrew’s face is much more handsome than his girlfriend’s, but what’s the point of being handsome if their relationship is just that. There is no warmth, no deep love, and no mutual understanding in it. Beautiful or handsome, over time it will fade. But love that continues to warm and has a strong bond in the heart, will be maintained until death separates.
“Do you have a plan?” asked Fania with interest.
“Nothing but I want our family business to continue without this ridiculous marriage. What’s the point of having a marriage if there can be cooperation?”
Fania nodded in understanding.
“How many days will you stay in this city?”
Fania’s brow furrowed deeply. “Why would you ask my schedule? After all, this is my hometown and Mommy has assets here too.” She folded her arms across her chest. Her eyes narrowed suspiciously at the man who tapped her lightly on the forehead.
“Talking to a stupid girl can’t be quick to respond.”
Fania’s eyes widened in disbelief. “What did you say?”
“You can bet we’ll have to attend events or spend a lot of time together. You know, to get to know each other better after three years apart.”
Fania let out a frustrated sigh. “I didn’t think of that.”
“That’s why I said you were stupid.”
If punching Andrew in the head was allowed and something he could do, then he would have done it earlier. If necessary, he would have knocked the man unconscious.
“Let’s make a deal. You want to be with your lover too, right?”
Without hesitation, Fania nodded.
“I have something to do too without wanting many eyes watching me.”
“Do you have a lover?” asked Fania spontaneously. Making Andrew frown strangely at his interlocutor.
“Ah, you have a lover apparently. So we have to make an agreement so that our respective meetings can go smoothly. Right?”
“Whatever you say.”
“You know what my lover is like. Don’t you want to share?” asked Fania with a curious look. “Come on, tell me what your lover is like.”
Their chatter was indeed observed. Both of their parents seemed to be smiling broadly and with a certain intent after observing the closeness that occurred tonight.
“I didn’t realize that your rigid son could be so humane,” Grace said with a cheerful smile.
This made Hanry chuckle and look back at the garden area where his son and the girl he’d set up with were still talking intimately. “You are indeed an obedient doll, Andrew,” he said to himself.
“You’re right. I guess it’s because Fania is a cheerful person. That’s why it’s only natural that Andrew would be able to shed his stiff demeanor.”
“I hope they can realize that this marriage is important for both of us.”
“I hope so, Grace.”
