Chapter 30- The truth is out
Chapter 30~ The truth is out
"Miss Davis, how could you ditch me after using me?" Ryan asked Lora when he followed her outside.
She was waiting beside his car, trying to recover from her panic attack.
When she heard Ryan's question, she blushed. She crossed her arms and said, "I didn't use you-"
"Are you sure?" Ryan arched an eyebrow and stepped closer. He placed one hand on the car as he stared down at Lora, a side smirk crossing his lips. "Who was trembling in my arms just now?"
"You-"Lora's face was as red as a tomato. The moment when she clutched Ryan's shirt tightly played in her mind and she had the urge to slap herself. "I didn't ask you for help."
"Ungrateful, aren't we?" Ryan let out a low chuckle. "I helped you because you looked like you were about to collapse. Shouldn't you thank me?"
"I already thanked you, Mr Kingsley," Lora said with an exasperated sigh.
"Um... you did. But you ran away from me like I'm a disease," Ryan remarked.
"That's because there was no need to continue being in the warehouse. I'm done checking the materials," Lora replied.
Ryan arched an eyebrow again. "So, you only need me when you're scared, huh? I'll keep that in mind."
Lora furrowed her eyebrows as she watched Ryan walk to the driver's seat with a smirk on his lips. What was he playing at?
Feeling confused, Lora got into the car and Ryan drove her to her jewelry company in awkward silence. He said, "I'll end the cooperation but since you were a part of the project, please attend the launch party which will happen in a few weeks... you can also come over to the company and monitor the project's progress."
Lora frowned. However, since she had a sense of responsibility as a professional, she decided to watch over the project once in a while until the final product was on the market.
She replied, "I'll check on the project whenever I have some free time."
When Ryan dropped Lora off at Davis & Co., he immediately called his friend, Adan Nicholson.
"Hey bro, how far with the investigation? Have you found anything?" He asked as soon as Adan picked up.
"Hello to you too," Adan remarked. He sighed and replied, "I haven't found anything that can link Lora to Larisa so far."
Ryan's heart sank... he was hoping to get some news soon. The uncertainty behind Lora's identity was driving him crazy.
"But there's something strange," Adan said and Ryan's heart skipped a beat.
"What is it?" He asked, his heart racing rapidly in his chest.
"After the Davis family found Lora six years ago, I hear she had been hospitalised for quite some time," Adan reported.Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.
'She was hospitalised? Why? Was she in an accident?' Ryan thought in his mind.
"Did you learn anything about that? What was wrong with her?" Ryan asked.
"That's the thing... the hospital has no proper records of her stay in the hospital. It's either they lost them or purposely got rid of them," Adan said on the phone. "My P.I is still trying to find the full details."
Ryan's eyebrows furrowed and suspicion crept into him. Something was definitely fishy. Why would someone erase hospital records unless they were trying to hide something?
A thought occurred to him and his heart raced, "Lora has a birthmark that's identical to Larisa's. I need you to find out if it's just a coincidence."
After the call, Ryan's phone rang again. It was his grandfather calling and thinking he was calling to ask about the progress of the project after the scandal, he quickly answered.
"Grandpa-"
"Ryan, are you trying to destroy the company?!" Charles Kingsley yelled on the phone.
Ryan frowned in confusion. He asked, "What's wrong, Grandpa?"
"Are you asking me what's wrong? It was just a few days ago when you were in a scandal and now, you're trending again! The stock price keeps dropping!"
Ryan's heart dropped. He had no idea he was trending in the news again.
"Ryan, I let you take over the company instead of your father because you were more responsible! I won't forgive you if anything happens to the company because you can't put your life in order!" Charles scolded on the phone.
Ryan's hand tightened around the steering wheel. He gritted his teeth and replied, "I'll handle it, Grandpa."
"You better! Let Larisa rest in peace, you already failed her when she was alive!" Charles said and hang up, his words sending a sharp pang of pain through Ryan's heart.
Was the trending news about Larisa?
He quickly checked his phone, and sure enough, the news was related to Larisa. Even though they hadn't disclosed her name, it was now a known fact that Ryan was once in a secret marriage six years ago.
The truth was out. It was revealed that Ryan's hidden marriage ended due to interference from his mistress who happened to be none other than Ivy Williams.
Since the gossip was about Ryan Kingsley and Ivy Williams, everyone was interested in the news and kept sharing and reposting the story.
Ryan narrowed his eyes at the phone screen as he read the comments.
"What's the identity of Ryan's mysterious ex-wife? Is she from a wealthy family?"
"She must have been poor, that's why he divorced her. So heartless!"
"Poor lady.... Who knew Ivy Williams was a homewrecker? She destroyed someone's marriage."
"But I heard Ivy Williams and Ryan Kingsley were childhood sweethearts. Doesn't that mean it was Ryan's ex-wife who came between them? She was the homewrecker!"
Ryan clenched his jaw.
Who could have revealed this news? Ryan could only think of one person. His blood boiled in anger as he dialled a number and stepped on the gas.
