Howling Hearts

Chapter 8

My Paws collided with the earth as hard as possible. The trees went past me in a blur and I was going as fast as my wolf could go. When I came to, I realized what had happened. I wasn't sad, though I was angry. Furious. There's no doubt in my mind that Asher didn't smell me coming and yet he still got all cozy with my sister. The flashes of what happened came back to me. The sight I saw was Saige barely clothed and her chest was just covered by her navy blue bra. She was right next to Asher on her knees with her chest pushed against his shoulder. 1

He was sitting there in shock as he just stared at me, not saying a word. Not so much as an apology. Or even an apologetic look in his eyes. Instead, they were filled with a hunger I had never seen in his eyes before.

If I hadn't been so angry and the situation was so much different. I would probably be just as lustful as him. Instead, here I am trying to run off the face of the earth with the hopes of never seeing them again.

Anger and hate encapsulated me. There was no way I would be able to look at him the same way. There was also no way I would be able to forgive him or trust him ever again.

When I barged into the house and ran to my bedroom, a pair of footsteps were close to my trail but I closed the door before they could follow me in. "bang, bang" My mother knocked franticly against the door to find out what was wrong.

"Mom......I just want to be alone... please" I pleaded with tears streaming down my cheeks. The anger had transformed into sadness. I laid there on my bed naked and broken. I just cried my heart out. Eventually, I fell asleep and I don't know when. I woke up to the tender touch moving the hair off my face.

When I opened my eyes, I saw my mother. Her eyes were filled with worry and love. "What's wrong Hun?" As those words left her mouth it was like a Band-Aid was being ripped from a fresh wound.

I was always someone who said to never beat around the bush, but maybe just this once it would've been easier. "My mate..." I didn't know how to put what had happened and what I was feeling into words.

"You met your mate?" She asked very cautiously not to jump to conclusions. "Yes. While he was sleeping with someone else." I just blurted out the words and tried to hold the tears back but couldn't.

My mother hugged me and rubbed my back, hoping that she would somehow rub the broken pieces together again. I hoped she could, but knew very well that this wasn't her mess to fix.

I just bawled my eyes out right onto her shoulder and whatever was left over of my makeup definitely stained her beige shirt. Right now I don't care though. Suddenly, she pulled back from the hug and cupped my cheeks and asked "Who?" with anger bubbling in her blue eyes. I was very hesitant to tell her the names, fearing the drama it could cause between the families and within our household.

Seeing that I was hesitant, my mom used her beta aura. Although not as powerful as the alphas, I still would have to submit in some way.

It was a useful power granted to betas to make temporary ruling a little easier while the alpha was away having meetings in different packs.

"Tell me". I shut my eyes tight and as I said their names the picture of them popped up in my head. "Asher and Saige"ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .

My mom let go of my cheeks, sitting there with shock in her eyes. We sat on my bed quietly for a few minutes. My mom seemed frozen in place. Just at the right time, Saige came back from school.

My mom jumped up and ran outside my room, closing the door. I knew a massive fight was about to break out. I couldn't help but feel sorry for Saige. Mom's wrath was no joke.

Saige:

I saw my mom standing at the top of the flight of stairs. I could see she was angry with me again. I hadn't even been home for a full minute and s**t was about to hit the fan.

"What now?" I asked her and, getting an eyebrow c**ked at me like I knew exactly what I was doing wrong.

Silence filled the room.

"A hello would be nice every now and again" I said sarcastically. I was making my way up the stairs to my room when I walked past her, when she grabbed my arm.

"I don't recall bringing a selfish little b**ch up". I turned my head to her in total shock at her words. She didn't even look at me while saying it. Like I was some piece of garbage she couldn't wait to toss out. 1

"What's that supposed to mean". She turned her head slowly to look me in the eye. "Don't act so innocent, Saige. I didn't bring you up this way. Failing school was one thing, but sleeping around and especially with your sister's mate is a new low. Even for you."

Now I understand little red fox b**ch got here first and pinned mom against me again. She always enjoyed ruining my life. "If you are trying to get me to leave Asher alone." I moved my mouth to my mother's ear to make sure she heard what I was about to say loud and clear. "It's not going to work".

My mother stood back in shock at my words. I couldn't help but smirk. "Do you even realize that an alpha with his true mate is stronger than with a false mate? You might not like Scarlet as your sister, but you will respect her as your future Luna".

I scoffed at the idea of a little sneaky and conniving little fox like her being the pack Luna. "If she so deserved that title, then she would be here facing the music herself. Instead she's being a little B**ch in her room crying. You want to know why, mother? Because he doesn't love her. He loves me".

I could see my mother starting to boil and knew a big fight was about to break out and so it did. We screamed and shouted at one another for over an hour.

"Get out of my house now!" my mother yelled. "Gladly, if you're looking for me to apologize to your future Luna, you can find me at Asher's place." I grinned as I knew that would rile my mother up even more.

A smirk crossed my face. Scarlett might have our parents at her side all the time, but I have what is most detrimental to her. Het mate.
