Chapter 14
Lauren Lied
Harper said, "Maybe. We'd better be careful."
"Okay, I'll check it out." Frank hesitated to speak.
But Harper didn't notice his hesitation, thinking that he was tired, so she asked him to rest early and ended the discussion.
After turning off the computer, she picked up her phone and looked at the time. It was already past ten o'clock, and Benjamin probably wouldn't be back tonight.
Harper suddenly remembered Benjamin's reminder. She thought, "Benjamin hoped I would keep a distance from men before the divorce, but what about him? Could he be strict with himself?" With this in mind, she pressed her lips and called Benjamin.
The phone was connected soon, but what Harper heard was a gentle female voice. "Harper? I'm Lauren. What's up?"
Harper froze, thinking, "Huh, Benjamin really loves Lauren. He even let her check his mobile phone."
She gritted her teeth and said coldly, "Put Benjamin on the phone."
Lauren said, "I'm sorry. He can't come to the phone now. How about you call back later?"This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
"I can wait."
"Harper, I'm not willfully refusing you. Benjamin is..."
"Go ahead," Harpe continued.
Lauren glanced at the ward door that had just closed. Benjamin went to talk to the doctor about her discharge. She deliberately said, "Benjamin is taking a shower now, and I don't know when he will finish out, So..."
Harper stiffened, and her eyes widened in disbelief.
She thought, "Wake up. They have been so intimate. Benjamin will only ask me to keep a distance from men, but he has gotten closer to Lauren. That's ridiculous."
Harper clutched the phone tightly and said indifferently, "Okay, I know. I won't disturb you."
Before Lauren could respond, she quickly hung up. She was afraid that she could not control her emotions if she hung up a second later.
Harper finally understood. Benjamin asked her to keep their distance from men because he was afraid that she would do something to discredit him. He had never taken her reputation into consideration or thought about whether she would be laughed at.
Harper sneered and thought, "If I were Lauren, Benjamin would never do this, right?"
Pity there were no ifs.
In the ward, Lauren held Benjamin's mobile phone and hesitated for a moment, then deleted the call history and put it back.
The next second, the ward door opened, and Benjamin walked in. He noticed Lauren's flustered expression and asked, "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Lauren shook her head and smiled. His eyes were bright. "Benjamin, what did the doctor say?"
"You need to take a good rest, then you can be discharged from the hospital in the next two days. I will arrange a place for you."
Lauren smiled, "Okay. Listen to you."
"Um." Benjamin nodded. He glanced at the mobile phone on the counter beside him, then he picked it up and checked it. There were no messages.
He said in a low voice, "It's getting late. You need to go to bed. I have to go, and I'll come see you tomorrow."
Lauren quickly grabbed his clothes, pressed her lips, and said reluctantly, "Benjamin, I'm scared to be alone. Can you stay here tonight?"
Benjamin was expressionless, and his deep eyes were full of indifference. He said, "Lauren, I'm still married, and it's inconvenient for me to stay here. Any rumors will affect you. I don't want this to happen. The care worker will come over later. Be good, huh?"
Lauren was silent, with grievances on her face. Tears welled up in her eyes, but she tried not to shed them. "Benjamin, are you really going to divorce Harper? I don't want to push you, but somehow, I just have no sense of security. I'm afraid that you will have feelings for the beautiful and lively Harper, so I..."
Benjamin frowned. "I will definitely divorce her, but I need some time to persuade my grandpa. Lauren, take care of yourself. I will handle these things."
"Then can you accompany me here tonight?" Lauren looked at him expectantly.
