Chapter 19 Damn
“Are you sure that is what he said to you, mom?” Serena asked her mother for the umpteenth time unbelieving. She had come out of an argument with her sister only to hear that Damon had left with explicit warnings that she remained where she was till he called for her.
“That is what he said, I have no idea where he dashed off to in such a hurry.” Her mother said.
“Maybe it has something to do with father, I would just have to wait and see if he calls me before noon, if he doesn’t, I am going back to the house. Isn’t it so bold of him to to think I would heed his instructions? When have I ever given him that vibe.” She asked no one in particular.
Her mother was hardly paying attention to her, she had her mind elsewhere, no doubt on the disappearance and possible kidnap of her husband. Serena felt sorry for her, she sat there so forlorn, it was difficult to bear.
“If there is anyone who will definitely find father, it is Damon. Do not worry yourself so much, he wouldn’t want you to.”
Her mother sighed dramatically and nodded, acknowledging that she had heard what Serena said.
“I shall get dinner going while we wait, please come inside. It is pretty dangerous for you to be sitting out here alone with all that had happened.”
“I will be in shortly, just get the kettle going for tea.” Her mother reassured her.
Serena glanced at her one last time before entering the house, her sister Eloise sat staring stoically into space, no doubt still pissed at her because of their little spat.
She deserved every bit of my anger, running off like that with my own body, Serena thought not acknowledging her presence as she moved around.
“You should know that Jakes only dated you to get to me, that is what I was trying to tell you before you flared up like that. He told me, he never ever loved you and he was only doing what he had to do to get my attention.” Her sister said smugly.
“I did not ask you for that bit of information, Eloise. You can have Jakes, I am pretty happy with my life right now and with Damon.”
“You should be grateful to me, dear sister. Damon would have been mine and if I had known he was anything like that man he is, I would never have run away.”
“Pity, isn’t it? You don’t always get what you want, pretty as you are.”
“You think I cannot get him if I want to? Sister, no offense but you are totally delusional. Have you looked at yourself recently in the mirror? You haven’t changed much from pudgy teeth Serena.”© NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
“If you do not shut your damned mouth, I will shut it for you and by God, it won’t be a pretty sight.”
That seemed to shut Eloise up immediately, she merely huffed and puffed but no longer said a word.
Serena’s mother joined them some minutes later, clutching a pillow in her hand like it was her life’s support.
“Here” Serena said, offering her a cup of tea.
“Thank you” she smiled and sat down to drink.
Serena watched her carefully, it was so obvious she had something on her mind other than the kidnap. Something else was bothering her, her eyes appeared vacant even as she sipped the tea.
“What is bothering you so much and don’t say it is all about father’s disappearance.”
“It is nothing, Serena. Don’t you think it is time you went back to your house?”
“I don’t know, I was waiting for Damon to call and tell me it is okay to come back but seeing that that is not happening, I shall have to go on my own. Eloise shall stay here with you and make sure she is always available for you.”
“What makes you think I will stay.” Eloise scoffed glancing at Serena.
“Because this is our mother and our father is missing, you will do your duty.” Serena said authoritative.
“Don’t bother her, I can take care of myself. You should hurry along, back to your husband.”
“Geez… okay, I’m going back but not before calling him.”
“Call him? You should surprise him instead of calling and making him aware of the situation.”
“If you say so, call me if you need anything mother. I love you so much and I promise that father will be found.”
She walked out of the house with mixed feelings, it was so clear her mother was hiding something and also it involved the disappearance of her father.
Was that why Damon had suddenly left, did he find something important out when he talked to my mother, Serena thought hailing a cab.
She contemplated calling Damon about being on her way back but decided against it, she was going to surprise him just like her mother had said.
…
“Leave him be for now .” Damon told Santos who was standing at attention in front of him.
“Pardon me boss but I believe we should nab him now before he changes location and goes far away from us to an unknown location.”
“I want to see what he aims to do with so much drugs, he is going to lead us to it.”
“We can still take him and properly interrogate him, if you leave it up to me I will make sure to get every single piece of Information he has to offer.
“I am aware of what you can do, Santos” Damon said dryly.
Santos was family, they had always had him around since he was a child. He was the son of their driver who had been killed during a raid of the Matteo Warehouse, he had simply been at the wrong place at the wrong time and he had caught a bullet for Damon’s father. Santos was immediately adopted into the family and made to serve Damon since they were little.
“The lords are already getting squeamish and most of them are considering taking their business elsewhere and employing bounty hunters.” Santos pressed on.
“Are they now? You know what, take him and make sure to extract every bit of information as to where my drugs are, Serena’s mother is in on his deceit too but I am yet to figure out how exactly to punish her. When you find her father and when you have successfully gotten the location of my drugs from him, you are to kill him.”
A gasp escaped Serena’s throat before she even had the chance to slap her hand across her mouth.
Damon turned around and came face to face with a frightened Serena and from the look on her face, it seemed that she had heard all they said, including his orders to kill her father.
