Love Me The Way I Did

Chapter 6

Chapter

“Yes.” This one word seemed to carry some weight, enough to make Clifford understand what had happened.

“It’s all in the past now.” Margaret looked up again and smiled.

“Try this.” Clifford casually changed the topic and put a plate of caviar before her. “It’s my favorite.”

Margaret nodded and quietly sampled some.

The temperature in the private room began to rise, Clifford watched her eat each bite and finally stood up when she finished the last of her grilled fish.

“What’s wrong?” Margaret looked up in surprise.

I tried to contact you when I left three years ago,” said Clifford earnestly. “But I couldn’t reach your phone or contact the battlefield. Until last month, I went to your university in Atharia and several battlefields afterward but didn’t get any news about you…”

He almost thought that something had happened to her. But when he went to the police station and found that no one reported her death, he was relieved.

Margaret narrowed her eyes in surprise. Her first response was to say, “Why did you want to see me so urgently? What’s the matter?”

“I was terrified that something bad had happened to you.” His gaze was sincere and passionate, forcing Margaret to look at him.

dn’t know

Margaret was so shocked that she didn’t know what to say,

Realizing the atmosphere was slightly tense, Clifford suddenly laughed to ease the embarrassment. “It’s great to see you back safe. There’s a dinner party tomorrow, and all the notables of Alenvista will attend. You just came back and need some connections. I happen to need a female companion. Do you want to go with me?”

Margaret knew what he was thinking. Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.

With his gentle and handsome appearance, impeccable background, and concern for her, Margaret thought Clifford might be her best choice if it weren’t for the man she couldn’t forget.

“Margaret?” Seeing that she kept silent, Clifford called out to her. Somehow, he thought she seemed burdened with concerns during their

current encounter.

“Huh? All right.” Margaret came back to her senses.

Clifford was then relieved. “You don’t need to prepare a dress. I’ll pick you up after work.”

Margaret nodded with a smile and thanked him softly.

The next day after work, Clifford came to pick her up on time. The car stopped at the entrance of a luxury dress store.

After entering the store, Margaret was brought to change into a dress prepared in advance. The staff tied her hair into a bun with several casual braids. When it was time for makeup, she reached up to stop the makeup artist.

“There’s no need for makeup. This will do,Margaret said.

The makeup artist looked at her and smiled. “Good. You look beautiful. You must be the most stunning!”

Margaret looked at her unfamiliar self in the mirror. The black dress perfectly outlined every detail of her body and made her look exquisite.

She looked at herself for a while, got up to open the door, and went out. “Let’s go.”

Clifford’s eyes lit up as he praised her. “You are so beautiful today.”

Margaret looked at the dress and smiled. “It’s a good choice.”

The car soon arrived at the dinner party.

“It’s a pool party tonight. Stay by my side later. Don’t walk around. I’ll help you with the drinking.” Clifford whispered tenderly.

“Okay,” Margaret nodded.

In the past, she rarely joined such parties. The only few times she attended were with Gideon.

Gideon would have never helped her with the drinking but wouldn’t have let anyone make a toast, either. With just a gaze from him, almost no men dared to approach Margaret. Because of that, she could enjoy eating in the dining area by herself while waiting to go home.

Margaret immediately realized that she remembered something unfavorable and shook her head harshly.

“It’s been a while, Dr. Huxley!” Someone greeted Clifford, but his eyes were fixed on Margaret.

Then everyone’s attention was focused on Margaret. She stepped back and tried to walk in the shadow of the door without being noticed by

others.

“Only Mr. Compton can invite you to a party! You’re a hard man to meet, Dr. Huxley!” someone joked while toasting.

The words instantly made Margaret stiffen. ‘What did he just say?”

“Clifford…” Margaret pulled Clifford’s arm gently. Sweat had begun to bead on her forehead. “Who did he say organized this party?”

Clifford smiled and turned around. Before he could answer, Margaret suddenly shivered harder.

“What’s wrong?” Clifford asked.

Margaret remained motionless as if she had been nailed to the spot. Without waiting for Clifford to answer, she had already seen it.

Gideon, in a black suit, was standing 30 feet away, holding a wine glass with his defined fingers. He leaned against the edge of the pool but still attracted everyone’s attention.

His gray eyes seem to bore straight into Margaret’s gaze.
