Shadow was taken aback, her surprise evident on her face. It took her a long time to register what was happening, her mind struggling to comprehend the situation before her. She glanced at the imposing bodyguard beside her, her eyes locking onto him as she questioned her own reality. Was this all just a dream?
Trepidation and a flicker of hope battled within her as she pondered Alpha Kilian’s sudden desire to see her. Finally, after all this time, he wanted to meet his wife. While a part of her heart filled with joy at the thought of finally being reunited with her husband, another part was consumed by an indescribable uneasiness.
Rumors had circulated about Alpha Kilian’s unpredictable nature and cold demeanor. If she were to meet him, would she be able to control him? Could she ever hope for a normal life with him? Numerous uncertainties plagued her mind as she stood outside the study door, preparing to knock.
Summoning her courage, she entered the study, only to be greeted by the husky voice of a man. It sent shivers down her spine, reminiscent of a parched desert thirsting for water. It was terrifying, to say the least.
Before she could even take in the scene unfolding before her, a suited man by the table confirmed her presence to the enigmatic figure seated behind the imposing desk. “Master, it’s Madame, your wife.”
Shadow’s gaze darted around the room, taking in its black and white aesthetics, an understated yet luxurious environment. Though nothing appeared overtly impressive, there was an undeniable allure to the space.
But it was the figure in the chair, his back turned to her, that commanded her attention. She could only catch a glimpse of his head and arms, but never his face. All she knew was that he was a formidable presence, her husband, Alpha Kilian Lances.
Observing quietly, Frank the man by the table confirmed his identity. “Young Madam.”
“You are Frank?” she inquired, having heard Alpha Kilian address him by name earlier.
He simply nodded, choosing to remain silent.
Tension hung heavy in the air, shrouding the room in silence. Shadow couldn’t gauge her husband’s thoughts, unable to see his face. Yet she could feel the cold aura emanating from him, enough to evoke fear within her. Involuntarily, she found herself lowering her head in submission.
Finally, Alpha Kilian spoke, his voice cutting through the silence like a knife.
“Have you seen George?”
Shadow momentarily froze, realizing that he was addressing her. Her mind raced, attempting to comprehend the significance of his question. Though she had suspected their relationship was strained, she never expected Alpha Kilian to refer to his own father so disrespectfully. Shouldn’t he, at the very least, show some semblance of respect?
It seemed she had underestimated the depth of Alpha Kilian’s anger and resentment.
“Yes,” she replied, uncertain why he asked but aware of George’s concern for his son. “We had a casual conversation, and he spoke fondly of you.”
Though she sensed George had ulterior motives in asking her out for dinner, she could still discern his genuine care for Alpha Kilian. She couldn’t help but feel a hint of envy towards her husband, knowing that he had a father who loved him, unlike her own father who had abandoned her.
Alpha Kilian sneered at her response. “I heard from Alpha Dominic that the two of you got along well?”
The mention of Alpha Dominic caused Shadow to freeze, her body stiffening with trepidation. The last thing she wished for was for Alpha Kilian to suspect any connection between her and his rival. She quickly shook her head, denying any familiarity. “We merely met at the Castle. We’re not acquainted.”
She deliberately concealed the fact that Alpha Dominic had spent a night in her rental house due to an injury. Though nothing transpired between them, she knew she couldn’t explain the situation to Alpha Kilian. It was better to keep it a secret.
“Is that so?” Alpha Kilian’s words sent a chill down Shadow’s spine, effectively silencing her. What had he heard? Did Alpha Dominic say something unfavorable to Alpha Kilian?
“Very well, leave!” he snapped irritably, his impatience tangible.
Though she couldn’t see his face from her position, she sensed his distance and indifference. The rumors hadn’t lied he was as cold and harsh as they claimed.
In truth, Shadow had entered the Lances family under duress, compelled by Lisa’s manipulation and her own desperation for escape. Yet there was another reason she wanted to break free from her oppressive past. She knew the consequences that awaited her, but she had resolved to be Alpha Kilian’s wife for life. It wasn’t because she had no other choice, but because it was the only path to liberation from her abusive family.
Biting her lip, her resolve solidified as she took a step towards Alpha Kilian. She summoned her courage, determined to see his face, to meet his gaze. “Alpha Kilian, can you turn around?”Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.
If only she could see his face.
The room grew colder, a frigid tension settling upon them. Shadow held her breath, her palms sweaty with anxiety. Alpha Kilian remained silent, refusing to comply with her request.
“I harbor no ill intentions,” she rushed to assure him. “I only mean that if we’re to spend a lifetime together, we will inevitably grow acquainted. Your physical appearance holds no significance to me, whether you bear scars or disabilities…”
Alpha Kilian’s stunned expression caught Shadow off guard. No one had ever spoken to him in such a manner before. His lips curled into a mocking smile, his voice dripping with malice and disgust. “Your feelings matter not. I find you ugly and disgusting as a cheap product.”
Even so she was the one accepted getting mated to him with his disabilities but she never thought he would be rude, ugly tempered!!!
