Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 432

In the past, to chase down stories, she picked up a bit of judo, learning how to leverage her strength against opponents. Like that karate chop she just used-it was meant to temporarily knock Ava out.

But she knew her limits. Even if there was just one bodyguard at the door, that person would have gone through all sorts of professional training to be the top-notch guardian for the head of Bennett Corporation. She wasn't about to pit her amateur skills against a pro. A direct confrontation was definitely out of the question.

Her only option was to wait for a crowd and blend in to make her escape. Luck was on her side. Before long, a lively group of ladies, clearly part of a tour group from the city, came bustling in, chatting away in thick New York accents as they headed to the restroom. Selena cozied up to a slightly plump lady, pretending to be her daughter. Using the ladies as cover, she confidently slipped past the guard's watchful eyes.

Only when she'd put some real distance behind her did the knot in her stomach start to loosen. Still, she couldn't let her guard down yet. She turned off her phone, found a janitor's cart at the airport, and when no one was looking, tucked her phone into an inconspicuous corner, letting the cart carry it around the airport.

After all this, an hour had already ticked by. By now, the bodyguards had probably realized she was gone, but she wasn't in a hurry to leave. Pulling her hoodie over her head and slipping on a face mask, she found a bookstore, settled into a chair, and picked a book at random to read.

...

Back home, Everett had just wrapped up a tea session with a relative. After saying their goodbyes, he climbed into his car, rubbing his temples.

Glancing outside at the bright daylight, he suddenly remarked, "Mrs. should be boarding again by now, right?"

Alex, sitting in the passenger seat, checked the time and nodded, "Yes, she should be boarding if there's no delay."

"Give her a call to check in," he instructed lazily.

Everett never thought of himself as clingy. He found such behavior childish and laughable, not his style at all. Yet, it had only been half a day since Selena left, and he found himself missing her. Was she thinking of him too?

Alex was about to make the call when they got one from her instead. She answered instinctively.© NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.

In a matter of moments, her face turned pale. Almost mechanically, she reported to Everett that Mrs. was missing.

As the words hung in the air, she caught a glimpse of her boss's handsome face in the rearview mirror, instantly morphing into something dangerously intense.

She didn't even dare to breathe too loudly.

Was Mrs. caught up in some scheme by Mr. Everett's business rivals, or had she planned her escape all along?

She found herself hoping it was the former. If it were business rivals, they'd probably just threaten her. Anyone thinking of actually harming her would have to think twice.

But if it was the latter...

Alex shut her eyes, not daring to think further.

Everett took out his phone, his fingers trembling slightly as he dialed that familiar number. Even though he knew it would be off, the cold automated message still darkened his mood.

Keeping his composure, he hung up and opened an app on his phone, clearly showing Selena's phone's location.

Before returning her phone last time,

he'd had a tracking system installed. It was meant to protect her, to find her immediately if anything happened. Ironically, the first time he used it was to track her down as she attempted to escape. How absurd.

With his forehead veins pulsing, Everett coldly ordered, "Selena is still somewhere in the airport. Turn the place upside down if you have to, but find her for me!"
