Chapter 11
Chapter 11
Chapter eleven Oliver`s lawyer had called Mr. Randy Damon and asked for a meeting at Oliver`s office the next day. Mr. Ramon in turn informed Arianna of the new turn out of things, and she agreed to it. The meeting had been set to take place by ten A.M at Oliver`s office. Arianna told Rosie about it and Rosie decides to accompany her as a witness. Arianna wondered what tricks the billionaire planned to hassle himself out of this but her lawyer assured her over the phone that she should not be worried about it, he promised to handle everything and make sure he gets justice. Mr. Damon was not one the best lawyers in the city but he was popular because of his determination and zeal to get justice for the less privileged. In the present world, justice is like a commodity for auction, the highest bidder takes it home, but with lawyers like him, even the poor could get justice. He was never scared of his opponents; he always fought against the injustice of the rich and won eighty percent of them. But he had never opposed someone as rich and influential as Oliver, that is why he was excited about this case. Winning a case over the billionaire would be a great achievement for him and as a bonus; he would also get justice for his client ‘Arianna McQueen’ The next day came and they all assembled at Stark Enterprises. Rosie had come dressed in her best attire, a blue, one handed gown and a red satin jacket. Well, she was looking good just in case she would find her prince charming there. Arianna, Rosie and her lawyer sat on one side of the long table, while Oliver, his lawyer and Sammy sat on the other side. It was a table used for official board meetings in the company. Sammy tried his best to concentrate on why they were there, but he could not help but steal glances at Rosie. She had really dressed to kill today. Arianna on her own side was putting on a stern face; she was feeling a bit nervous. She had almost given up on the case this morning while preparing, but when she remembered Oliver`s harsh words to her, she made up her mind to fight this case to the end. No one can insult her parents and get away with it like that. “Alright Mr. Damon, I have gone through the demand letter you sent my client ‘Mr. Oliver Gomez’ and my client refuses to accept your demands, he insists that the baby in question does not belong to himContent is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
as he had not released his semen in her, on their night of intimacy. He further says that he feels insulted by your client`s accusations which are nothing but a banter of lies, so therefore he would want to pursue the matter further legally.” Mr. Danielson, Oliver`s lawyer said. Arianna clenched her fist under the table. Even though she could not remember how that night ended, she knew for sure that he was the one responsible for her pregnancy. She had not been intimate with any other man since that night, and she had sex last two months before that night. So if it was not him, then who was responsible? “In that case Mr. Danielson, I am afraid that my client and I would see you in court. We would prove that your client is responsible and then he would pay twice of what is stated in the demand letter.” Mr. Damon replied. “Mr. Damon, my client and I are not scared of your threats, but for the sake of his reputation, we would not want to take this case to court. The lady in question is not worth it.” “Mr. Danielson, I will advise that you mind your words, if you speak ill of my client again then I would sue you for defamation and female rights abuse. Now as for your client not wanting to go to court, does it mean he would accept the conditions in the demand letter?” Mr. Damon queried. The two lawyers glared at each other with intense hatred. Mr. Danielson was popular just like Mr. Damon; the difference was that he was way richer as he usually accepts bribes from rich men to fight a case in their favor. He was a corrupt lawyer. “No Mr. Damon, my client refuses to accept your demands, but since your client insists on pressing the case further. I have an idea on how to settle this. Your client and mine would have to undergo tests to know if the unborn child really belongs to the accused or not, if the results prove that he is the father, then my client would fulfill your demands, but if he is found innocent of the charges, then your client would have to pay twice of what is written in your demand letter to mine. Are you okay with that plan?” Mr. Damon hummed. “Alright, I would need ten minutes to discuss that with my client in private, and then I would give you a reply,” Mr. Danielson looked at Oliver and he nodded in approval, then he turned back to the other lawyer in the room.
“Alright, you have just ten minutes to do that, my client has important things to do.” He replied. Mr. Damon signaled to Arianna and she stood up, Rosie also followed and they walked out of the meeting room to the long hallway. They were on the third floor. “Miss Arianna, what do you think of their plan? Should we consent to it?” Mr. Damon asked. Arianna was quiet. “Listen Miss Arianna, if you are sure of what you are saying, then you have nothing to fear, I would make sure that this works in your favor, I won’t let that bad man get away with what he has done to you,” he promised. Arianna sighed. “Alright then, let’s agree to the plan. If you are certain that they won’t cheat, then I have nothing to fear, let’s do it.” She said with a strong mind. “Are you sure about this Aria? Remember the fine to be paid if you are proved wrong; are you certain that it was him?” Rosie queried. Arianna turned to her friend with anger flaring in her eyes, those words were hurting her more. “I can’t believe you are asking me that Rose, don’t you trust me? Do you think I would lie over something like this?” she queried. “No sis, it’s not like that. I am just looking out for you; I am only saying that you should think clearly to make sure that you are not making a mistake, like putting the blame on the wrong person by mistake. I do not mean to say that you are lying,” Rosie replied. Arianna sighed again, she should try to control her temper not minding that she was pregnant, and it was in the nature of pregnant women to get upset. “I am sure of what I am saying Rosie, so please let’s not argue about this.” She said, and then turned to face her lawyer who was checking the time on his watch. Oliver, his lawyer and Sammy were sitting patiently in the meeting room. The greedy lawyer had an evil smile on his face; he knew that there was a lot in it for him if he won this case. Oliver had never failed to give him something nice anytime he helped him to win the case. The last time that happened, he bought him a car.
Just then, Arianna, her best friend and her lawyer walked in. Rosie noticed Sammy`s eye following her and she smiled. This might be her next target. They all got seated in the same order as before. “Alright Mr. Danielson, my client has decided to accept your deal, but we also have our own conditions,” Mr. Damon said. “May I know your conditions?” he queried. “Yes. My client has requested that the tests are carried out in two different hospitals, one of them chosen by her and the other chosen by your client. If they two produce the same result, then it would be generally accepted, but if one says something different from the other, it would be a sign that someone had cheated and the case would be taken to court. Do you accept our conditions?” Mr. Danielson once again looked at Oliver who nodded in approval. “Alright then, we have a deal. I would prepare the paper works and send it over to your client this evening for signing. She should put the name of the hospital she chose in the agreement and my client would do the same.” “I think it’s better for both parties to be present during the signing, they should also come with their witnesses to partake in the signing, so I suggest it takes place here, later in the evening.” Mr. Damon spoke wisely. He knew his opponent was a crafty man who could easily manipulate the law to favor himself, and he was not going to take a chance with him. “Alright Mr. Damon, I think we have an agreement.” Mr. Danielson concluded with a grumpy face. The two lawyers exchanged handshakes which had not come from their hearts, then the two parties went their separate ways.
