They told each other how pitiful Dory was and how cruel Aimeen was to her.

Both of the neighbors sounded very self-righteous about themselves.

They didn't realize that Dory had woken up on the bed behind them.

She saw the two of them when she woke up.

After feeling a bit dizzy, Dory was about to call out to them, but then she heard their conversation.

"I find this so strange! Any parent would be worried if their child had been hurt like this. What kind of mother would treat their own child like this? Shouldn't a good child, like Dory, be loved and taken care of?"

"You're not the only one who thinks that way! A lot of people in our community think so too. So many of us are mothers and feel the same way!"

"Yes, there are mothers who beat their children and some who beat them really hard! But that's because their children are very naughty and disobedient! Dory is such a well-behaved child. She doesn't deserve this."

Dory grew very sad when she heard them talking about her.

She had always assumed that Aimeen scolded her all the time because she wasn't good enough.

That she wasn't obedient enough.

She wasn't as well-behaved as the other children.

But now, having heard those two talking, it seemed that wasn't the case at all.

She had been wrong.

She wasn't a bad daughter at all.

Then why did her mother punish her so much?

Dory couldn't understand.

Then, one of them began to whisper.

"Personally, I suspect that she isn't Dory's real mother, don't you agree?"

The entire ward went quiet after she said that.

The other person's eyes widened in shock, so taken aback that she couldn't respond.

She felt like she had been hit in the head and had suddenly gone mad.

After a full minute of silence, the neighbor who said it waved her hand and said, "I'm just speculating. Just speculation."

The other neighbor said, "You can't just say that

out of nowhere! Aimeen might have heard you!"

The neighbor who said such a shocking thing kept her eyes on the entrance to the ward and said, "Of course I know that. Don't worry, I'm pretty sure that it's just the two of us here. That's why I'm saying this to you in private. It's just the two of us, Aimeen will never know."

The other neighbor seemed to relax after hearing that.

She then added, "You know, I actually thought the same. A lot of us in the community noticed it too Aimeen, and Dory look nothing alike at all. Aimeen has such sharp

features that make her look so mean and angry, while Dory looks so kind and gentle!"

"I really didn't think so at first, but now that you've mentioned it, you're right! I always told myself, Aimeen has to be Dory's real mother, but if she was, she wouldn't have beaten her up so badly! But, yeah you're right! Dory looks nothing like Aimeen!"

They continued speculating.

The both of them soon became very engrossed into their conversation.

They had both become convinced that Aimeen wasn't Dory's real mother.

They had no idea that Dory had heard everything they discussed with each other!
