Chapter 5
Just when Naomi was about to leave with her bag, Evelyn just ended a phone call.
Edith said, “Yes, are you leaving as well? You can go with Naomi.“.
“Sure! I drove, I can take Naomi back.”
“What a coincidence!” Everyone chuckled.
Evelyn left with Naomi, hooking her arm around hers. They got in the car and left.
Although they were one big family and were friendly with each other, they were always busy in their lives, so they rarely kept in touch with one another. They barely spoke at all with each other all year long.
Just like Naomi and Evelyn.
They were not close to each other. Other than meeting each other during family dinners, and exchanging a few words, they had no other interaction at all.
In the car, Evelyn was on her phone non–stop, call after call. Naomi sat in the passenger seat looking out the window at the scenery that was so familiar to her.
She was still considering not telling her family about the divorce. After all, this had to do with the relationship between the two families. It was hard to tell them.
Truth be told, Naomi could only marry Scott because of their grandparents. Text © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
Her grandfather helped Scott’s grandfather a long time ago. He saved Scott’s grandfather’s life. The Lawsons were grateful to her grandfather. They might have lost contact later on due to various
reasons, but they always remembered how her grandfather helped them.
The first time Naomi saw Edith was when her grandfather was in the hospital due to illness. At that time, she was working near the hospital, so she often went to visit her grandfather at the hospital whenever she had the time.
That day, she went to visit her grandfather, only to see him talking with an old woman she did not recognize. That woman was Edith.
Only then did she find out about the story between the two families.
Half a year later, her grandfather said that Edith had a brilliant grandson that she wished to introduce to her. He asked her if she was willing to meet him.
Naomi thought it would not harm her, so they met. She did not think much about marriage, after all, she was only 24 years old back then, but she was an obedient girl who listened to her elderly.
Her grandfather persuaded her that she was at a suitable age to get married, so she agreed.
Who would have thought that three years passed just like that?
Date 3.
“Phew! I can finally take a breather!” Evelyn sighed, stopping her car at a traffic light.
Naomi was pulled back to reality. Seeing that they were almost by the city, she said, “Evelyn, just stop me at the next intersection. I’ll take a taxi home.”
It was hard to get a taxi from Lawson Mansion. You either drove or had a driver to send you.
Naomi went to Lawson Mansion together with Scott. Scott left early in the morning, so she was going to get the driver to send her. As it turns out, Evelyn headed off too, so she hitched a ride from
her.
Hearing how busy Evelyn was, Naomi did not want to waste her time by getting her to send her home.
“No, it’s fine. Also, I’m,” Before she could finish her sentence, her phone rang once more.
Evelyn’s gaze darkened.
Naomi chuckled. She waited for Evelyn to finish her call before saying with a smile, “It’s fine. I need to head somewhere too. Just drop me off right in front. Go get busy.”
Evelyn thought it was not nice to drop Naomi somewhere instead of taking her home, so she furrowed her brows. However, she also thought about how Naomi said she needed to do something, it must be something important she had to take care of.
“Alright!” Evelyn dropped Naomi off at the next intersection.
Naomi got out of the car. “Drive safe!”
“Call me if you need anything.”
“Alright.”
Seeing the car driving off, Naomi looked around and hailed a taxi. “Please take me to Specter and Associates.”
Clara was playing with Maya while Edward and Chester were on a round of chess. Irene and Chester’s wife, Anna, were having tea with Edith upstairs.
After a rainy night, the morning was cool. Flowers were in full bloom after the spring rain, like a bear waking up after a long winter’s slumber.
“Anna, please ask Mrs. Smith if she has finished making the banana bread that I asked her to make. It’s Maya’s favorite.”
Anna got up. “Alright, I’ll go check on her.” Then, she left the room.
After she left, Edith took a sip of tea before saying to Irene, “The children have their plans, you shouldn’t interfere in them.”
A comment was all it took for Edith to say what she wanted to say.
Irene slightly furrowed her brows. She thought she needed to make some things clear. “Mom, it’s

good that the Lawsons are grateful people. Although I wasn’t happy with Scott and Naomi getting married, I didn’t object to it.
“But, Naomi has been married to Scott for three years and she has no children yet. I thought it was time for me as her mother–in–law to say something. This is my responsibility as a mother.”
“The Carvers‘ daughter has returned, right?” Edith leaned back and looked Irene in the eyes.
Irene’s body stiffened. She shiftily looked away. “I heard that she’s back.”
Edith looked at Irene not meeting her gaze. She said, “Then, as your mother–in–law, I should also remind you that your children are adults. They have their thoughts and decisions. You should not meddle in their affairs.”
Irene’s face paled.
