Regrets After the Split: Does It Matter

Chapter 3

Chapter3

I stand at the office door, glancing at Doris sitting quietly in the corner, drawing. Seeing she is alright, I sigh in relief.

Out of the corner of my eye, I catch a glimpse of a little boy who is throwing a tantrum. When he sees me, his eyes light up, and he runs toward me with his little short legs.

“Mommy!”

I bend down to catch him, but instead of hugging him, I gently push

him away.

“Hey, you’ve got the wrong person.” I smile slightly, lifting my gaze to meet the man in the room, “Hello, sir, I’m Doris Wilson’s mom.”

I never expect to run into Charles again.

The world is vast; if you don’t want to see someone, you usually won’t.

Aaron cries loudly, accusing me of not wanting him.

Doris grips her pencil tightly, and I can tell she is getting a bit annoyed.

Charles stares at me in silence, clearly waiting for my reaction.

“Doris,” I say as I pack her bag, “can you wait for Mommy outside?”

Doris nods without hesitation, slinging her backpack over her

shoulder and walking out without looking back.

As soon as she steps out of the door, Aaron quickly wipes his tears and

comes running back to me, hugging my leg.

“Mommy, please don’t be mad at me! I know I was wrong!”

I bend down and smile, giving his head a gentle pat.

Then I look up at Charles. “Mr. Evans, can we talk privately?”

My history with Charles is far from interesting. It hardly seems worth

mentioning.

When Samantha was younger, she rescued Charles’s grandmother Lily

from a kidnapping, and they became close friends.

After I got into college, Samantha was feeling her age. She didn’t want to go through too much hassle, but she was worried I might struggle with city life by myself. So, she reached out to Lily to help look after

That year, as I walked out of the train station with my bags and luggage, I immediately spotted Charles leaning against a car, casually looking at his phone.

He was just so dazzling, so much so that I wanted to pile every beautiful word I knew onto him.

It was perfectly normal to have a crush on him. I knew we were from

different worlds, and I never thought much beyond that.

The moon hung high in the sky, and I was content just to feel its light pouring down on me as I passed by him.

Charles and I were at the same university, and from time to time, he

would bring me things that Lily had asked him to.

Gradually, we became casual acquaintances.

Later, I learned about the love story between Charles and his

childhood sweetheart. This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.

Their romance was always so dramatic–filled with sweetness, quarrels, breakups, and reconciliations.

I remained a spectator, occasionally feeling a twinge of sadness.
