Chapter 22
"Do you… have anything you would like to say to me?"
Gordon replied indifferently, "No."
Upon hearing this, Mayra didn't ask further. With her head in the clouds, Mayra walked back to class.
As soon as she settled into her seat, Emily scooted over. "Did you know that Ms. Nina went to the library to spy on you today? You should have seen the way she was looking at you and Gordan. It seemed as if she had a fire burning in her eyes. It was truly terrifying. Material © of NôvelDrama.Org.
"It's a good thing you and Gordan weren't lectured. Perhaps she never expected you two to actually be studying."
Emily sighed. "Mayra, you're only a sophomore. Do you really have to study so hard?"
Mayra shook her head. "Gordan will be heading to Belchester University next year. If I don't have him tutor me now, I won't get the chance next year."
Emily said hesitantly, "Mayra, could you tell Gordan that I would also like him to tutor me? I'll pay him a tuition fee!"
At first, Mayra was a little hesitant, but upon hearing that Emily was willing to pay a tuition fee, she nodded in agreement. "Alright. I'll talk to him for you."
Gordan was struggling financially, and tutoring earned him way more than working in a shop. Mayra just wanted to do all she could to help ease his burden.
Emily was an only child, and her family was pretty well-off financially. Paying for tuition was well within her family's means. Soon, the bell rang, signaling that class was over.
Throughout the afternoon, Mayra found herself in a daze. It was all because of the strawberry keychain she had seen in Gordan's pocket during lunchtime.
That was clearly the same keychain they had bought from a handicraft shop at the night market they visited. How had it ended up in Gordan's pocket?
Thinking about the suit jacket that Anderson had left behind along with the keychain she happened to lose as well, she couldn't help but shudder. Could Anderson have gone to look for Gordan?
But that wasn't possible. She didn't even tell him that she was with Gordan last night. However, she knew that she was merely lying to herself. With Anderson's intelligence, how could he possibly not have guessed it?
She couldn't help but wonder what Anderson had said to Gordan for him to act this way.
…
Time flew by, and soon it was the last day of the mock exam.
During this period, Mayra could sense that Gordan was trying to stay away from her. The frequency that they met after school decreased, and even when she tried to approach him, he would deliberately distance himself from her.
As for Anderson, Mayra hadn't contacted him for nearly half a month. Then again, it wasn't like she could either. But at this point, she couldn't care less.
After finishing the last math exam, Mayra finally let out a sigh of relief. She was quite confident in her performance and the questions that Gordan spotted had indeed appeared.
In contrast, Emily was slumped over the table with a dejected look on her face. She cried, "I'm going to fail this exam. What am I going to do, Mayra? Oh, by the way, has Gordan agreed to tutor me?"
Mayra shook her head. "I haven't asked him yet. He hasn't even got time for me right now."
Sensing something fishy was going on, Emily asked, "Did you two get into a fight?"
Mayra simply remained silent.
