Chapter 2
Gwen suddenly remembered something. Jake’s schedule did entail a one–week business trip that had taken place two months ago.
She gripped her phone so tightly that her luckdes began to turn white. Did this mean… Jake had cheated on her?
As Jake’s secret wife and the secretary of Hall Group, she had never detected any romantic scandals involving him and other women before witnessing the scene at the hospital
“Mr. Hall is so nice to his girlfriend! I wonder who’s the lucky woman! I guess he’ll make his relationship public soon!” “I’ve searched for the woman on the Internet. Is she the one?”
The nurse, who was pushing a medical cart, grabbed her colleague’s phone and glanced at it. She replied in a shocked tone, “Yeah! That’s her! Holy shit! Isn’t this Sienna Charles, the second daughter of Charles Group? Her looks and background are definitely on par with Mr. Hall’s! They really are a match made in heaven!”
Both nurses were still gossiping about the matter as they walked away.
Charles Group, huh? After Gwen was done with the discharging procedures, she got into the Halls‘ family car, which was sent by the Halls‘ butler. She found it difficult to calm down even after a long time had passed.
The car window was lowered halfway to let fresh air in. The glow coming from the lit screen of Gwen’s phone illuminated her pallid face. She had used many keywords in her search, yet she couldn’t find any news that suggested a possible alliance between the Halls and the Charleses.
Obviously, this was abnormal because both families were extremely wealthy and influential in Bellmont City.
Upon returning to Hall Manor, Gwen noticed that the lights in the living room were still turned on.
Her sister–in–law, who never liked her, wasn’t home at the moment. Agnes was the only one waiting for her return with a walking stick in hand.
“Oh, my darling Gwen! You really are lucky to have survived the crash! When I saw the news, I was so shocked that I almost got a heart attack!”
“Tof
“I’m fine, Mrs. Hall Senior.” Gwen squeezed out a smile..
She quickly came up with an excuse so that she could head upstairs and rest. “I feel a little tired right now. I’m going to go rest upstairs,”
“Alright. Hurry up and go rest. I already told someone to contact Jake. He’ll be home soon.”
Gwen paused in her tracks. She could feel the familiar pain washing over her senses once again, causing her expression to darken. It turned out that Jake had been avoiding her all this time,
Agnes thought Gwen was sad because Jake wasn’t here to keep her company. She had no idea that Gwen was being tormented by the idea of the other woman’s existence in Jake’s life.
Gwen felt like an absolute clown for putting in so much hard work.
It was already well past midnight by the time Jake returned to Hall Manor. The bedroom was dark, so he flipped on the switch. An annoyed look could be seen on his handsome face thanks to the warm yellow glow of the lights.
“You’re not asleep? Then why didn’t you turn on the lights?”
At that time, Gwen had spent the day bedridden. She barely ate or drank anything. The food brought up by the butler hours ago was still on the nightstand. It had already gone stone cold.
Where were you over the past two days
Gwen’s back was facing Jake when she spoke. She looked thinner than before. A hint of exhaustion and weariness tinged her hoarse voice.

Jake had just taken off his jacket when he heard his question. He visibly froze up for a moment, but his brows were quick to knit into a deep frown as he turned to look in the bed’s direction.
They had been married for three years. This was his first time hearing Gwen demanding to know where he was in such a hostile tone.
“Something happened in the branch company of Osmondale. I traveled there to deal with it,” Jake replied coldly. This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
He yanked his tie off in a fit of irritation before making his way toward the bathroom.
“Oh? Is that so?” Gwen let out a soft chuckle upon hearing the excuse.
Her faint voice rang out from the bedroom. “I asked Mr. Jett about your schedule. There aren’t any attachments of your flight ticket heading out to Osmondale on the schedule.”
It was easy for one to pick up on her sarcastic undertone.
Jake stopped right outside the bathroom. Even though Gwen didn’t make eye contact with Jake, she could still feel his intimidating gaze being pinned on her form. She knew very well that this was a telltale sign of Jake’s impending wrath.
