THIRTY: SAGE
S A G E
After the squirrels were cooked and eaten, Sage packed up their things. “We should go,” he said.
She looked at him like he was joking. “What?”
Sage tied up the peloton and whistled at Titan . “We cannot stay where we cook the food. Hold on.” He nodded in the woods.
His eyes widened. “Do you think better?”
“Unless you want to share your space with a hungry giant grizzly bear, we can’t stay here,” Sage said. “We will set up camp further away.”
She groans. He took the opportunity to wrap his arms around her waist and pull her closer. Her heart beat faster at the proximity of her body. He still couldn’t imagine how much her kiss had completed him. For the first time in a long time, he felt happy. Moreover, she decided to confide in him. This thought made his heart race. She decided to trust him. He couldn’t ask for anything more. Well, maybe his shower and bed.
“It’s okay. I promised to keep you safe, and here’s how.” He looked down at her and smiled.
Irena ‘s shoulders relaxed as she looked up at him. “Alright.”
It took about half an hour to move and unpack at the new campsite. He was grateful for the distraction that building a dome structure had put them to sleep. The memory of their kiss was still fresh in her mind and on her lips. Her body wanted to bring her closer.
But can he do it? Just step up and kiss her? She doesn’t seem to object to the first kiss, but does that mean she’ll be fine with the latter?
He suppressed a groan as he gathered spruce branches for the roof. That’s not what he wanted. It’s elementary school. Pass notes to each other to see if the other person likes you.
After he finished loading the branches onto the roof, he sighed. Best to come right away and ask him. He let his eyes wander to where she was sitting. She pulled her knees up and she was staring at the fire in front of her. Light danced on her skin.
His chest tightened as he looked down. He wanted to know what that kiss meant. If she feels like him. He wanted to open his heart to her and let her do the same. But if she rejected him, he wasn’t sure he could handle the pain.Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
He sighed as he took a sip of water. He reviewed his work. Exhaustion invaded his body. You need to stop thinking and rest. Tomorrow, he will dissect his plan. But now, they will sleep.
