Chapter 16
All through the drive through the woods, all I can think is that I should have marked her last night. I shouldn’t have let her doubt cloud what we had. They probably wouldn’t have taken her if she was marked. Or maybe it is better this way, they might keep her alive a little longer since she isn’t. Fuck, I don’t like these thoughts, she should be in my arms, not held captive by some assholes.
Sam links me. “We are going to need to pull over, they will spot the vehicles if we drive any further in.”
I pull over. I know that a couple of the guys have been trained in tracking, I am assuming that they can slink in there and see what is up in the camp, get us numbers. Getting out I pull Deimos out, on his leash, because I don’t want him taking off without a direct command and direction. “Alright, Kevin, James, can you two get in that camp and get us numbers. Maybe a location for my mate.”
They both nod and take off towards the camp. Sam waves his phone at me. “The location just went down. They found the phone.”
“Fuck. Alright, as long as they don’t move her then we are fine. I am really hoping that this is some rogue and all they have is this camp. If it is someone with more connections then they will move her and we may never find her.”
Curt nods. “All we can do right now is wait for the link on what we need to know. I suggest that night fall would be the best option. Most of us have dark fur. If we attack like that, using shadows and dark to our advantage then we could get the upper hand. Not to mention, we have time to cut the power.”
I like that strategy. “As long as it looks like they aren’t moving her, then that is a good plan. Now I want another plan if it looks like they are going to move before nightfall.”
We all hear the cracking of limbs off to the right. We crouch and look in that direction. One man comes into the clearing. “I knew you would come.”
I growl. “You were supposed to be her friend.” I recognize him from the pictures in her scrapbook. He was the one kissing her.
He puts his hands up. “I am. She is my mate, I don’t give a shit what you think. But that son of a bitch hurt her. He is going to die. I have the information that you need to get in.”
“I don’t fucking trust you.”
“There is a tracker on your truck, that is how we found your cabin, and how I found you now. I am the only one with the app to locate it. Check my phone, it is in my left pocket.” I nod to Curt and he checks the left pocket and tosses me the phone. Then he proceeds to check all his pockets.
“Why did you take her? Why didn’t you take me?”
I can see on the phone that he does have an app that shows the exact location of my truck. “Because she is my mate, asshole. I have known it since we were twelve. I have known her far longer than you. You may think that you have some connection, but it will never be what we have.”
I nod. “Agree to disagree. I would have never let her get hurt.”
“Only you did when you handed her over.”
“Because she wanted me to.”
He nods. “To keep you safe. She was always one to sacrifice herself for the ones around her. My Alpha has her locked up in his cabin. It’s on the West side of camp. There is blood on the two pillars on the porch as a mark. That wasn’t my intention when I put them there, but they will work now.”
“Who is your Alpha?”
“His name is Justin.”
Sam, Curt and I all growl in unison. Sam mutters. “I knew something was off with that guy.”
“Curt, hand me your phone.” He tosses me his phone and I dial up my father. He answers after the first ring. “You better get your ass back here Curtis, my son and this whole little trip is going to get you all extra training at the least. I want you all back here now.”
I growl in the line. “I am not going back, Father. Not without her. Alpha Tyler’s nephew Justin is the one that took her. He was trying to get her last night. If you need more proof that this isn’t a mate thing, then I have one of his wolves. He was from the pack that we just absorbed. Apparently the wolves that escaped didn’t go rogue, they just found a different Alpha. Justin is building his own pack.”
My father is quiet for a minute. “Hang on.”
I wait, I can tell that he is relaying this information to Alpha Tyler. He comes back on the line. “Where are you? I don’t have the signal any longer.”
“I’ll send the location from Curt’s phone. Follow it this time. We have her exact location. Numbers would be good.”
The guy looks at me. “We are at one hundred. Give or take a couple.”
I relay that to my father. “I sent in Kevin and James to verify. I should have information back by the time you get here.”
I ended the call with him and sent the location of the phone from Curt’s. “You do know this is betraying your new Alpha.”
The guy looks down. “He shouldn’t have fucking hurt her.”
“What’s your name?”
He huffs. “I thought you knew about me.”
“She never said your name. Just that you were dead and she was sad about it.”
“How did you know who I was then?”
“I saw your picture in her photo album. Now, a name.”
“Connor.”
“Well, Connor. Any damage that she sustained in that cabin, you will get in return. It’s your fault she is in there.”
“Gladly. You have no idea how much I love Mads.”Property © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Not nearly enough.” I state. “You left her in danger twice.”
“You’re right, but it doesn’t change the fact that I love her. I will do anything for her. Now are you going to save her or not. Because if you are here just to dick around, I’ll find another way.”
“You’re staying with me. I will be the one to rescue her. You will be lucky if you live to see tomorrow.”
