Chapter 1: I'm A Babysitter?
Chapter 1: I'm A Babysitter?
Chapter 1: (Aubrey's POV)- I'm A Babysitter?
"Aubrey, honey get down here!" my mom yelled early in the morning.
I turned over, facing my window where the sun shone, blinding me, and ended up falling on my ass, off
the bed. I groaned before running my hand through my knotted hair, throwing it up in a bun. "Coming!" I
replied before throwing my covers off of me, tossing them onto the bed. I slowly made my way down
the stairs and found my mom rushing to pack her lunch.
"Honey, I'm running a little late and there's something I had to talk to you about." She shoved her lunch
into her bag and turned to face me.
"What's up?" I asked while making my way over to her and beginning to clean up the mess she had
made while packing her lunch. She was running late and having her clean up would only delay her
more.
"So you know my co-worker, Catherine Parker right? She's come over a few times for small lunches
and some coffee?" she prompted. The image of Mrs. Parker was vivid in my head.
"Yeah, what about her?" I questioned while washing the dishes and my hands before drying them.
"Well, she has a son who needs babysitting..." she began hesitantly.
"Mom, what did you do?" I turned to her with suspicion in my eyes.
She nervously laughed before continuing. "Well I signed you up for it," she smiled at me.
"Mom!" I whined. "Why would you sign me up for babysitting? I haven't done it in ages!" I complained.
"Well, he's not that little! He can handle himself, she just wants someone that can keep an eye on him
and you are a babysitter," she reasoned.
"I'm a babysitter?" I questioned. "Since when?" I followed her as she grabbed her keys and phone and
began walking to our front door.
"Since now, Aubrey." She turned to me with a pointed look. "You have to be there by noon. I've left the
address on a sticky note on the fridge. Find it, keep it, do not lose it, and be there by noon. She's willing
to pay you if you want, you can discuss that with her. Her shift isn't until noon so get there a little early,
take care." She quickly kissed my cheek before speed walking to her car, driving off to the hospital
where she worked as a nurse.
Now, what do I do? I guess I have a summer job. I turned to look at the clock in our living room and
saw the time to be ten-thirty in the morning. I sighed and decided to get ready so I could get there on
time.
I jogged up to my room, picked my outfit, a white sundress with some sunflowers on it, good first
impressions only, and went over to the bathroom. I brushed my teeth, showered, and went back down
to get some breakfast, I decided to stick to eating an orange.
It was the one fruit we had in this household.
I threw on my converse and grabbed my keys and phone before plucking the note off the fridge,
reading the address.
It sounded familiar however I couldn't recall ever going to Mrs. Parker's house. I shrugged it off and
went to grab my bicycle. I like to bike around since it doesn't cost much since no gas is required and it's
fun for me.
I plugged my earphones in and began the ride over to the Parker household.
~~~~~
Once I got there, I analyzed the house before walking up and ringing the doorbell. Was this even the
right house? It seemed familiar. I read the address plate by the mailbox which read 'Parkers' and knew
I was exactly where I was told to be.
I sighed before leaving my bike by the mailbox and walking up to the front door. I straightened out my
dress and wiped my palms against it before letting out a sigh, shaking out the nerves. I don't know why
I was so nervous, I just had a feeling.
A bad feeling.
I rang the doorbell once before waiting for the door to open. I checked the time on my phone to see it
was eleven fifty-three. A flustered Mrs. Parker opened the door.
She too seemed to be in a rush while holding her bag and lunch in her hand, I take it being a nurse is a
stressful job. "You're early!" she spoke in surprise while letting me in.
Yeah by seven minutes.
I hesitantly walked in and looked around. The place still seemed familiar. "Sorry?" I spoke but it was
more of a question.
"Oh no sweetie," she laughed while throwing her lunch in her bag as my mom does. "Just surprised."
She turned to face me. "I know you were a little hesitant to be here. I don't want you to feel obligated to
be doing this just because your mother suggested it. If you want you can try for today and if you don't
like it then feel free to tell me. He's not a kid, so he should be able to handle himself but he is not
allowed to leave the house," she spoke.
Confusion graced my face as I kept listening.
"He won't be able to but I need someone to keep an eye on him, just to make sure he doesn't try
anything stupid that could land him in more trouble than he's already in. I'll be more than willing to pay
you if you'd like. How about we start at twenty-five dollars today and if you'd like to stay then we can
keep it going and raise it a little?" she offered suggestively.
"Sure. I'm okay with that. Just a question out of curiosity um- how old is your son?" I questioned
nervously. I didn't mean to sound rude so I was trying hard not to.
"Old," she laughed nervously. "You can meet him and get to know him. Xavier!" she yelled before
grabbing her keys and beginning to head out. She stood at the door, looking at the stairs while waiting
impatiently.
I heard footsteps coming down the stairs and once the person came into my view, my eyes widened
and my jaw dropped down to the ground. He walked down the stairs casually and walked right up to
me, standing directly in front of me, too close for my liking.
I could go on my toes and our noses would touch. "Yes mom?" he spoke in a bored tone, his looking
directly into mine. My breath hitched in my throat.
"This is Aubrey. She's the daughter of a friend from work. I've called her here to babysit you. Be nice,
get to know each other. You're stuck at home for the summer Xavier, so don't do anything stupid to
worsen things for yourself. Have fun!" she spoke to him sternly before heading out the door while we
stood still.
"Hi. I'm Aubrey." I took a small step back.
Personal space dude, chill.
"Xavier," he spoke, expressionlessly while eyeing me head to toe. If I didn't know better I'd say he's
checking me out.
This is Xavier Parker. Known for being a player, and delinquent around town. He's been in trouble with
cops a few times and was caught breaking into the school in the last week.
From what I heard, he broke in and triggered all fire alarms, causing the school to flood, which is how
our holidays were extended by a week.
I eyed him right back, looking him up and down until something caught my eye. A green light beeping
by his right ankle. A monitor.
"You're on house arrest." I pointed out while shifting my gaze back to his.
He looked at me monotonously.
"What did you do?" I questioned.
An amused expression graced his face, he does change expressions then. He took a step closer to
me, his chest brushing against mine. "Someone's curious," he spoke with a smirk.
"Since you're the baby that I have to be babysitting. Yeah, I am." I spoke confidently. I don't know
where that spark and fire came from, geez. NôvelDrama.Org owns this.
He looked me up and down once again. "I like you. You get to stay."
"I don't think you get to choose," I replied.
