Talented Wife 16
Alina incredulously raised her head, catching a sight of Johnny's pale face. His Adam's apple protruded, his jawline impeccable. His features were sharp, so close, his deep eyes brimming with anger. His hand still tightly shielded Alina.
The air carried the pungent smell of blood, but nestled in Johnny's embrace, Alina only caught the beloved scent of spruce.
She had yearned for the solace of Johnny's embrace for what felt like an eternity, longing for the warmth of his arms around her. Yet, time and again, her hopes were dashed, each expectation of a comforting hug from him fading into disappointment. But now, in an unexpected turn, she found herself ensconced within the familiar sanctuary of Johnny's embrace. It felt as it did five years ago. His arms were expansive and safe, providing a sense of security she had longed for. Alina forgot to push him away.
Meanwhile, gasps filled the air as everyone looked shocked at the intervening figure.
On the other side, Barbara was stunned, wide-eyed as Johnny rushed in, shielding Alina from the bottle.
Glass pierced Johnny's shirt and his skin, blood seeping through the fabric.
The Woolery family quickly realized the situation. Johnny's presence at their wedding made them feel immensely honored. Someone of Johnny's stature was not to be offended, and the consequences of such an offense were unimaginable. But now, Sybil had hurt Johnny.
"Mr. Sutton!" Glen shouted, snapping Alina out of her daze.
Alina hurriedly extricated herself from Johnny's hold. Not even admiring Johnny's looks, instead, she clasped his hand, examining his arm.
"Hey, are you alright?"
Although she could have avoided Sybil's attack, her instinct to distance herself was preempted by Johnny's swift extension of his arm.
Her perplexity grew as she pondered Johnny's actions. She almost questioned his intelligence. In their current state of disconnectedness, they were nothing more than strangers. She grappled with the puzzling enigma of why Johnny felt compelled to come to her aid and shield her from harm. "I'm fine." Johnny's expression remained icy.
"I mean, are you mentally okay? Why did you come to protect me? I don't need your protection!"
An inexplicable wave of anger surged within Alina.
When she needed protection the most, Johnny wasn't there to shield her. His current actions seemed utterly pretentious and meaningless to her. Others, shocked by her words, wondered if Alina had lost her mind. They couldn't believe she dared to suggest Johnny had a mental problem. "Doctor! Get a doctor!" Glen panicked, hastily asking Johnny, "Mr. Sutton, are you okay? Why get hurt for someone like Alina? She's not worth it."

Although Glen hadn't yet grasped Alina's resurrection from the dead, his focus now shifted entirely to Johnny.
"Ms. Chavez is a crucial business partner for my company. If she's injured, causing delays in our work, are you prepared to take responsibility?" Johnny's tone was icy, sending shivers down the Woolery family's spines, almost making them faint.
Chaos erupted instantly among the crowd, turning the scene from a wedding into a disaster site.
"Miss Woolery, you've harmed someone. Don't you even have an apology?" His gaze was icy, and his imposing aura made everyone quiver.
"Sybil, apologize to Mr. Sutton!" Glen quickly pulled Sybil over to Johnny's side.
Sybil didn't think she was wrong at all. Her hair was disheveled now, looking nothing like a bride.
"Why should I apologize? It was Alina who ruined my wedding! Her eyes were fiery, looking almost ferocious.
"Sybil, I came just to wish you happiness. How does Kennard not marrying you have to do with me?" Alina shrugged, her crystal-clear, bright eyes resembling those of an innocent child, as if saying she hadn't done anything wrong. "I haven't done anything wrong. I even brought a gift."
"Mr. Woolery, I hope you sort out your family matters first and ensure the safety of my designer. I'll take my leave."
After Johnny uttered those words, the Woolery family dared not harm Alina.C0ntent © 2024 (N/ô)velDrama.Org.
