Chapter 10
Chapter 10
After Christopher heard all of this, he pondered over it for a bit, then promptly nodded, “I’ll give Allison a ring. You head over to the hotel to sort some stuff out.”
Not long after, Allison got a call from Christopher and made her way to the hotel.
In the bride’s lounge.
Leah stared at Allison, whose face resembled Penelope’s so much that she found herself nodding frequently.
Leah had never thought that the face she despised the most would come in handy today, only that Allison’s demeanor was gentle, totally unlike Penelope’s fierce and arrogant aura. It was easy to tell them apart.
In terms of facial features and skin tone, Allison’s skin was a shade lighter than Penelope’s, and her eyes seemed bigger.
After a while, she explained what she needed Allison to do and gave her a heads up, “Allison, the Flanagan family has always been good to you. Once this is done, I’ll arrange a specialist consultation for your mother, but you must keep this a secret today. If the Lindberg family finds out… you know what’s at stake.”
Allison clasped her hands tightly. She had thought that after that night, she would have no ties with that man, but she never expected to be asked to stand in for Penelope to get engaged to Lucian.
This was undoubtedly risky, and if she wasn’t careful, he would find out what happened that night.
But she couldn’t delay the treatment for her mother’s illness any longer….
“Alright, I agree.”
After Allison agreed, with the help of two assistants, she slipped into a custom–made wedding dress worth a million dollars, the skirt studded with diamonds, undeniably beautiful. However, Allison was thinner than Penelope, her waistline more slender, and it took a few safety pins at the back to make it fit.
The white lace veil fell, obstructing Allison’s view.
She was led downstairs by Christopher, who finally handed her off to Lucian. The man held her hand, and through her gloves, she could feel the warmth of his palm.
Her heart fluttered a little
Everything was beautiful, the lavish engagement ceremony, the expensive wedding dress she was wearing.
And the handsome man in front of her.
But for her, all of this was just a bubble.
“Now, let our betrothed couple exchange their engagement rings!” the minister’s voice pulled Allison back from her thoughts. She
looked up to meet the man’s gaze.
Lucian’s lips curled into a smile. The engagement banquet was coordinated by the Lindberg family’s butter and was just a formality to him. Marrying Penelope was just to give her closure.
But now, looking at the shy woman in front of him, he felt a strange sense of happiness. It seemed… getting married wasn’t a bad idea
after all.
He slid the engagement ring onto her middle finger. The beautiful, sparkling ring shone in Allison’s eyes, and she felt like her heart was about to leap out of her chest. Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
At the minister’s prompting, she picked up the other ring and tried to slide it onto the man’s finger, her movements shaky.
Lucian reassured her in a low voice, “Don’t be nervous.”
Allison felt a pang of bitterness. She looked up at him through her veil at his blurry yet handsome face.
The man chuckled softly, took her hand, gently held her finger and helped her put on the ring.
The minister gestured for everyone to applaud, “Let’s wish this ideal couple all the best.”
Someone jokingly said, “Lucian, aren’t you going to kiss your bride?”
Lucian was always composed and wouldn’t be swayed by such comments, but today was his engagement ceremony. He looked down at the beautiful woman in the wedding dress, wrapped his arm around her waist and kissed Allison through her veil amid gasps from the crowd.
Her lips under the veil were soft, her body carrying a faint scent of cherry blossoms, which left him a bit intoxicated.
It was as if… he was transported back to that night when she was beneath him, innocent and sweet.
Lucian held Allison tightly by the waist, kissing her passionately.
