Chapter Twenty-Eight; The Confrontation
AURELIA
I didn’t know what to think.
I didn’t know how to feel.
Was I angry? Yes. Frustrated? Yes. Terrified? Yes.
The morning light streamed through the tall windows of the CEO’s office, casting long shadows across the polished floor. I stood before his imposing desk, my hands clenched at my sides.
Luke sat calmly in his leather chair, his expression as calm as a still lake. “Have you signed the contract?” His voice was cool and collected, a stark contrast to the turmoil raging inside me.
I narrowed my eyes on him. This man… he must know that I had already figured out he was the so-called master, but I did not sense any remorse or apprehension from him. It was infuriating. How long did he plan to toy with me, and then he goes ahead to reveal the truth like it was nothing? Like he didn’t violate and cross all boundaries.
“I haven’t,” I replied evenly, meeting his gaze with determination. “And I haven’t had a chance to go through it either.”
How could I even consider the contract, one that would bind me to a man who had no respect for my privacy? If he’d expected to go ahead and sign it, then he was in over his head. I had made up my mind. I wasn’t going to sign the contract. I had barely gotten any sleep last night. I kept tossing and turning in bed, beating myself up for being such a gullible fool.
Luke raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement flickering in his eyes. “And why is that?” His tone was taunting, as if he couldn’t quite understand why I was so agitated.
Insults burned at the tip of my tongue, but I restrained myself. He was still my boss, he had the upper hand. I took a deep breath, trying hard to calm the storm that brewed and raged within me.
“I can’t be tied to a man who has no respect for boundaries. I’m sorry sir, but you crossed all moral lines.” My tone was surprisingly firm, and I mentally praised myself for keeping my voice from trembling. “There are things I can’t accept.”
His expression remained impassive, but I detected a glint of satisfaction in his eyes. “Things you can’t accept?”
The CEO threw his back and laughed, a booming mocking laughter that caused an unsettling shiver to go down my spine.
What was so funny about this?
I gritted my teeth, my fists tightening at my sides. What did he find so hilarious? Did he laugh like this while he watched me dance in his palm, taking pleasure in the way he made me restless? It didn’t make sense and it did at the same time. The messages he sent matched his tone perfectly, but I didn’t notice because I never thought he would do something like that.
I had clearly misjudged him, realizing I did not know anything about this man.
His laughter soon died down, leaving a knowing smirk on his face. “I see.” He nodded, stroking his bare chin as his tongue darted out to lick his lips. Something stirred within me as I watched him, but I snapped back to reality as he spoke once more.
“Is that what’s bothering you, Aurelia?” he asked casually as if discussing the weather. “But I must remind you, it was you who crossed all limits first, from the moment you added my name to your sex bucket list.”
“That’s….” I trailed off, realizing he had a fair point, but I never intended to post the list, nor did I have any intention of humiliating him. “That’s different.”
I stood my ground. “You’ve been playing games with me,” I started, my voice lowering as I struggled to suppress my anger. “Manipulating me into this… arrangement.”
The CEO leaned back in his chair, folding his hands behind his head. “I prefer to call it… guiding you towards what you truly desire,” he replied smoothly. “And judging by what happened yesterday, you desire me just as much as I desire you.”Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
His words hit me like a slap in the face, the memory of our heated encounter at the boutique flashing through my mind. Despite my rage, I couldn’t deny the undeniable attraction between us, the magnetic pull that drew me to him even now.
“I won’t submit to you,” I declared defiantly, meeting his gaze with fire in my eyes. “I won’t sign that contract.”
The CEO shrugged his shoulders, a dark chuckle rumbling in his chest. He studied me, a predatory gleam in his heterochromatic eyes. In one swift motion, he stood up and circled the desk until he was standing behind me. I unconsciously held my breath. My body went stiff as his hand rested lightly on my shoulder.
“You say that now,” he murmured, his voice low and dangerously seductive. “But we both know you can’t resist me.”
His touch ignited a flurry of conflicting emotions within me-fear, desire, frustration. I wanted to push him away, to reclaim my sense of control. But his presence was intoxicating, overwhelming my senses in a way I couldn’t ignore.
I turned on my heels, a challenge brimming in my gaze as I faced him. My heart thumped hard against my chest, and I feared he would hear it if he got any closer. I stepped back, putting a foot distance between us as I raised the contract.
“I don’t need you to complete my bucket list,” I said, proceeding to slam the contract against his desk. His gaze flickered the contract momentarily, before slowly trailing back to my form.
“I have someone else in mind.” The words slipped out of my mouth before I could stop it. I wanted to spite him, knowing his possessive nature.
My taunt worked like a charm, wiping the smug expression from his face. I smirked, raising my chin a millimeter higher. God knows where this sudden confidence came from, maybe it was from the bottle can of beer I took before coming here. Liquid courage was a dangerous thing, but it worked well in my favor.
“I won’t settle for the third candidate. My first choice would be much be-”
With a sudden movement, Luke gripped my arm and bent me over the desk, effectively knocking the air out of my lungs.
It happened so fast. I struggled against his hold, but he was too strong, overpowering me easily.
“Watch your mouth.” He growled in my ear, his fingers digging into my skin as his grip on my wrist tightened. “Don’t you dare complete that statement.”
