Nine
On arriving at the construction site, Veil alighted the driver’s seat and casually opened the door for Anders. She felt less embarrassed now, the ride had helped her calm down.
As they stepped out, a few construction workers in charge were on standby to welcome them, or Anders.
“Mr. Rodriguez!” One of the men, who looked more advanced in age approached Anders, offering both his hands to him.
“Mr. Feliz!” Anders shook them with one of his while the other rested in his trouser pocket.
Veil looked at the man dressed in an engineer’s wear to see if there was any trace of embarrassment on his face, but there wasn’t. He instead looked humble, as if to say it was a privilege to shake hands with Anders.
Well of course it was. Was she forgetting who the man in question was? The infamous Anderson Rodriguez, CEO of Kingston Groups. One of the biggest and wealthiest tech companies in the country. Who was she kidding? The man ought even to bow based on the name and classification of power. Veil thought. She eyed Anders and didn’t fail to notice how elegant he looked in the black designer slim-fit suit he was wearing.
Unknowingly, her eyes linger on him for far too long and when she finally realizes herself, he had a questioning brow raised at her.
She jerked back in shock and then swallowed hard, her cheeks turning red instantly with embarrassment. Luckily for her, the other men were no longer with them.
With two long strides, Anders was covering the distance between them and they were standing close enough that Veil could feel his warm breath fanning her face. She swallowed hard. There was a knowledge of how much she needed to pull away, but she couldn’t get her legs to move, they were pinned to the root of the ground. His lips were just an inch away from hers and she involuntarily found herself staring at them. She found her thoughts wandering to dangerous paths. She bit the corner of her lower lip, stopping herself from thinking any more nonsense.
“If you want to check me out, do that when we’re alone.” He whispered in her face and she was suddenly aware of the seductiveness in his tone. It made her feel drowsy and weak in the knees. She bit her lower lip again, sniffling in a moan.
Ander’s body stilled. He fought back the heat building inside of him as he glanced between her pink lips and her hazel eyes.
“Don’t do that again!” He murmured and then gulped hard.
“Come.” He called out as he pulled away from her and started further into the construction site where the men from earlier stood, awaiting him.
“Mr. Rodriguez, this way please!” The advanced man from earlier ushered Anders further in, discussing the progress of the building while Veil followed behind wordlessly, trying to get over that little thing from earlier.
After what seemed like an eternity, it was time to leave. The men whom Veil had gotten to know were the directors and engineers of the project, led them safely out to where their car was parked.
“Thank you Mr. Rodriguez for stopping by.” The engineer smiled appreciatively, we needed you coming over especially at this point of the project.”
“I should be the one thanking you for the wonderful job you and your team are doing. I couldn’t have contracted a better agency for this job.” Anders said.
“We are glad the project is going just how you like it.” The engineer smiled.
The men talked a little longer, before finally shaking hands. Anders turned to Veil, and she looked down. As they headed back to the car, she could feel his dangerous eyes lingering on her and it made her uneasy.
She opened the car door for him and shut it close when he was inside, before claiming the driver’s seat, but just as she climbed on, she was suddenly fully aware of him and that awareness made the car feel stuffy. As she drove, she could tell he still had his eyes on her, and once in a while, when she glanced over at the rare view, she confirmed it. She swallowed hard, silently hoping they arrive at the office quickly and she gets out of this awkward situation.
But just when they were almost close to Kingston Groups,…
“Take a turn to the left,” Anders instructed. Veil was a bit hesitant, but then she had no say, she simply did as she was told.
She drove down a serene road and just when she was closing up at a small Spanish restaurant, Anders asked her to stop the car.
Veil hurried out and opened the door for him and he pulled out of the vehicle carefully. Finally being out of the confinement of the small car, Veil could finally breathe and slowly, she found herself regaining what was lost- her composure.
