Chapter 29
KAEL.
"I don't know. I can't remember anything about her, but..." I paused.
"But?" she asked.
"But I crave her." I didn't know why I let those words slip out. I couldn't even admit that to myself, but for some reason, it flew out of my tongue as if it were the general truth. Desiree's chest heaved as her nose flared.
In just two steps, she was in front of me. Her hand flew and landed on my cheek. She slapped me hard, and it sting. But it didn't break anything within me. It didn't rattle my senses, unlike when we were younger, whenever she was fuming mad at me. So I knew this was the end of us.
I didn't want to hurt her, but I also didn't want to shower her with words she would rather hear.
"Shame on you, Kael! Adessa tricked you into marrying her once, and she's doing it all over again! And you're just letting her! Who knows, maybe the danger she's in is just a game she's playing to get your attention!" She stopped to take a deep breath, but then she continued. "Oh, how I wish she was really in danger and that sooner, she'll end up dead!"
A growl reverberated from my chest at her words.
My hand grabbed her arm, tugging it. "Take it back!"
"No!" She shoved my hand, and since I was not holding her too tightly, she was able to get away. She stepped back and smiled sarcastically at me. "I wish her dead! And if you think I will leave this house, you're wrong! I'm not leaving, and I'm not going to give you up without fighting! I'm claiming what's mine!"
She turned around and walked out of my office, slamming the door on her way out.
I growled again and aimed for the nearest wall, punching it hard to release all the pent-up frustration inside me.
I had no one to blame but myself. We all ended up entangled because I let her believe there were still us. I might be guilty, but that didn't mean I would let Desiree take control of me again.
I needed her out of my house, not just because she was no longer my girlfriend, but because I couldn't trust her or anyone at the moment.
Within twenty-four hours of our breakup, six of Rasmus' trusted men arrived, and I immediately asked two of them to escort Desiree out of the house. She didn't want to, but when she realized these men meant business as they packed her things for her, she had no choice but to leave.
I could have my own men do that, but I didn't want any news to spread that I kicked her out. At least with Rasmus' men, I was sure they knew no one from here, and I could tell them to keep everything happening here between us.
I trusted no one-not even my own men.
Rasmus men became the security of my home.
Dexter, Miranda, Desiree, and even Landon were not allowed entrance into my house anymore. Any business, conversations, and meetings were held at the Central Hall.
Entering my home would always be at my discretion.
I also let go of my housemaids and transferred them somewhere else. So at the moment, I lived with six men in this house and used a car provided by Rasmus. A car that was being watched 24/7.
New security cameras were also installed around the packhouse as well as the Central Hall. And the main system was inside my home, in Adessa's old office. Separate from the centralized security system of the pack.
Dexter, of course, didn't like this and was badly hurt because I was making decisions without letting him know. He said I didn't trust him when he was the one that helped me carry this pack from the beginning.
I told him I was just taking precaution, and if he had nothing to hide, he shouldn't worry and instead, just keep supporting me because what I was doing was giving me peace of mind.
I hadn't heard any complaints from
Miranda, but she did send me

pastries a couple of times. All of them ended up in the trash bin. Of course, I didn't tell her, so the food kept coming. Desiree, on the other hand, was too quiet. And this one was making me worry.
I was told she was constantly leaving the territory, and that didn't sit right with me. This made me suspicious of her, so I had someone follow her today.
It had been five days since I found out Draco was after Adessa.
Although I tried to function normally,
with no memory of the last two years, I felt like I was starting again as an Alpha: But the disadvantage was I didn't even know where to begin tried to familiarize myself with the businesses and concerns alharound the pack while letting trusted men search for Adessa and
watch Draco closely.
At the end of the day, I would be tired, and with no news about her, I was slowly losing my spirits.
"Alpha Kael," Martin greeted me as he entered the kitchen.
I was seated at the counter and eating late dinner. "What's wrong?"
"Alpha Rasmus is on the phone. He tried to call you, but you didn't pick up." He said as he handed me his mobile phone. I took it from him, and he left me alone to speak with his Alpha.
"Do you have news for me?" I asked, chewing my food while my hand slipped into my back pocket to pull out my phone. I put it in mute earlier, but I didn't know that I forgot to have it in vibrate mode. I had four missed calls from him.
"I'll send you a photo to confirm if it's her. The hair is different, but the facial features look the same. But I'm sure you can identify your wife better." He began, not even letting me speak.
Rasmus had no idea I had lost my memory and that I divorced Adessa. He thought was still married to her. I didn't have the time to explain, or maybe because I didn't want him to know Adessa was already single, as
he did say she was beau when I
sent him a copy of her photos.
"Check my message." He said.
I pushed my plate away and grabbed my phone again, just in time for an MMS to arrive. My heart thudded loudly as I pressed it open, and a photo immediately popped out.
I swallowed hard as my eyes soaked in the sight of a female with long, straight black hair.
