Stanley shrugged at Winter's stubbornness, looking pointedly at the guest around the memorial hall. "I won't elaborate on Commissioner Kramer's death after I've already done it a thousand times. Frank Lawrence has failed to prove his innocence, and he isn't here on top of that.
"What could that mean, you ask? That poison has most definitely killed him already!"
"You're lying! Frank is perfectly fine!" Winter snarled through her teeth.
"Hmm?"
On the stage, Elder Fango opened his eyes, narrowing them at Winter. "What was that, child? You're saying that Frank Lawrence isn't dead?" "I..."
Elder Fango's question left Winter a little uncertain.
Frank was merely unconscious, and after she had checked countless times over the last two days, she knew that Frank's vitals were stable. However, she was not absolutely positive that Frank was fine either.
And seeing that Winter could not answer, Elder Fango closed his eyes in disappointment. "I guess I should be clear, girl-the death pill I gave Frank Lawrence is a novelty. No one in this world would survive without the antidote. Now that three days have passed, the man you're so worried about would already be dead."
"No... That's impossible!" Winter's face turned pale right then.
"Winter, is Frank...?"
Elder Fango's words left Helen and Vicky worried too.
"Haha!" Stanley laughed right then and snarled viciously, "Since Elder Fango has had his say, it's clear that the man who murdered
Commissioner Kramer has died for his crimes! But that's not enough. I have decided that we must make this man an example even in death, to warn the living and to give peace to Commissioner Kramer's perished soul!"
Vicky and the others were glaring at him right then.
"What more do you want?!"
"Y-You're out of line!"
"Someone has to make an example so that the other rats would remember!"
Podrick smirked. "No one gets to murder a commissioner and get away with it! They must all pay!"
"And that's not all!"
Stanley pointed at the women as he
snapped, "Helen Lane, Winter Lawrence, and Vicky Turnbull-l heard that you were all close with the man who murdered
et
월
Commissioner Kramer. Especially you, Helen, as his ex-wife!
"Not only have you defended him publicly, but you have even
demanded clemency! As the mayor,
I shall not allow such vile behavior to
continue poisoning the virtues of Zamri's citizens!
"Arrest those women-and starting today, Lanecorp and Zamri Hospital will be shut down, with their shares liquidated!
"As for you, Ms. Turnbull... you'll just have to wait for someone from your family to come bail you out!
"What?!"
The women were frustrated but helpless as Stanley finally revealed his true colors because he was the mayor and had serious political muscle.
Mona was hesitant even as she watched the security guards encircling them. "H-Helen, what should we do? Do we fight our way out?!"
