Chapter 31
Chapter 31
Sophia was getting sized up so weirdly that her big eyes were practically squirming under his brooding gaze.
Just as she was about to ask him what was up, Brandon beat her to the punch, “Mind if I come in and chill for a bit?”
“Not really convenient,” she said.
But Brandon wasn’t the type to take no for an answer just because of a single comment.
He didn’t barge in, nor did he take off, but he just stood there with his eternally calm demeanor, giving off vibes like he wasn’t going anywhere unless she let him in.
Sophia’s voice faltered, and her confidence seemed to drain away involuntarily, “I’m closing the door now. Do whatever
you want.”

As she was about to shut the door, Brandon suddenly put his hand out to stop it and with a little push, he opened it and stepped inside.
Sophia was steaming “You can’t just be this shameless.”
She and Brandon had never really had a spat, and she’d never really lost her temper at him. Their interactions had always been super chill, which made it pretty hard for her to get all up in his face now.
All she could do was to shout at him with a voice that lacked any oomph, which, if anything, sounded a bit coquettish.
Brandon rarely saw her get mad like this, so he shot her a look.
And just like that, her fiery spirit deflated a notch.
“I’m going to bed. Even her explanation came out all soft and unconvincing.
“I’ll leave in a bit, Brandon said.
Sophia hesitated, then let go of the door.
Brandon walked in and took a seat on the sofa. When sitting down, he glanced at the coffee table and noticed that the medical report that had been there was gone.
He couldn’t help but look up at Sophia.
Sophia had a hunch about what he might ask.
“My health’s really fine, she said, as she pulled out a blood test report from the top drawer of the dresser, “Just been eating poorly lately and got a bit of low blood sugar. Got it checked out today.”
She handed the blood test to Brandon.
Brandon took a look and, indeed, nothing major.
But he remembered there should have been at least two reports from different times today-one on the coffee table and the one in her bag she didn’t want him to see, most likely.
Brandon didn’t forget the first thing that man said when he knocked on the door. Susan just called me saying you went to the hospital this afternoon and…”
The sentence was cut off by her anxious interruption.
The date on this report was today’s, obviously from the afternoon hospital visit.
But the one from the coffee table.
His gaze shifted to the drawer behind Sophia.
Sophia felt a bit on edge for no reason, her eyes carrying a hint of wariness.
Brandoris gaze lingered in her eyes for a moment, but he didn’t press further. Instead, he switched topics. “What was your name before?”
Her mind was boggled by his out-of-the-blue question.
“Just Sophia,” the said, “You know that, right?
“Always been Sophia? Never changed it?”
Sophia thought for a moment. She’d been Sophia for as long as she could remember, so she nodded. “Yeah, that’s
right.”
“Any unusual experiences when you were a kid?”
Sophia frowned. “Why the sudden interrogation?” Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
“No reason, just reminded me of someone.”
Sophia chuckled. “Yolanda, maybe?”
Brandon just looked at her, saying nothing.
