Chapter twenty-nine
“Emma…….!”
I sighed knowing the owner of that voice, does she always have to invade my space? She always manages to invade my personal space, like she’s got a radar for annoyance. Everything and everyone here just grates on my last nerve. I swear, if I had the power, I’d snap their heads off in a heartbeat. The anger in me rises, my teeth grinding together as I take in the chaotic mess on the floor…….. Starting over again? The idea just felt like a punch to the gut, a constant reminder of the pain. It’s enough to make anyone want to scream.
“For once, get hold of your emotions, you are causing me a terrible headache,” As I was lost in my own thoughts, desperately trying to reign in my emotions, a voice pierced through the chaos in my head. It was like a thunderclap, jolting me out of my reverie. It is not my wolf, the owner of this very voice sounds domineering and commands authority. It sent shivers down my spine, instantly capturing my full focus.
What…. What…. I mean what just happened? Did I just hear a manly voice in my head?
I suddenly shot my eyebrow up in surprise, my eyes locking with Aristide, one of the three enemies standing just a few meters away. His calm and collected demeanor, along with the return of his normal eye color, sent a shiver down my spine. “Emma… what happened?” Alma’s panicky voice beside me carried a hint of worry. I let out a sigh, feeling the dread rising within me. I bite my tongue, concealing my emotions.
She was so concerned that she didn’t even notice the presence of those three. “Why… why are you sitting on top of a soaked floor?” she asked, her voice filled with confusion and worry.
Startled, I snapped my gaze away from those unsettling deep brown eyes, my body flinching in response to Alma’s words. As I looked around, my eyes widened in shock and terror, realizing that I had been sitting on top of a completely soaked floor this whole time. How did I not even notice? It was a chilling revelation that made a shiver crawl down my body in full force.
“You should get back to work,” Lucas ordered his expression void of emotion. At that moment, Alma abruptly jolted upright, her bravery faltering as she scurried to hide beside me, her eyes widening in fear as she finally noticed the presence of those three figures.NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.
“Good… Good day,” she stammered, her words stumbling at the end. “Sorry, I didn’t know you people were here.” Her voice trembled with nervousness, and I could sense the unease in her every word.
Ignoring her sudden apology, Lucas casually patted Aristide’s shoulder before sauntering off with Serena. They left me standing there in the hallway, alone with Aristide and a nervous Alma. But what caught my attention was the suspicious glance Lucas shot my way as he walked past us and the curious stares that lingered on Serena’s face. Something was definitely up, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was being watched.
What was that for?
Alma was still behind me, her fists clutching onto my already-drenched gown. I turned my gaze away from Lucas’ direction, making damn sure that they had walked away, and redirected my focus back to those piercing deep brown eyes. It was as if they held some kind of secret, drawing me in with their intensity.
There’s definitely something off about the way he stares at me and gives me the creeps. It’s like a mix of discomfort and intrigue. But strangely, there’s this genuine aura I sense, like he doesn’t mean any harm. But honestly, you can never trust those horrendous vampires, they can be real manipulators. And especially, that so-called demon king? Ugh…. A total asshole!
“Are you sure about that?”
Suddenly, I locked my gaze with those fiery brown eyes once more. I…. I heard a voice in my head again. I couldn’t help but shoot him a suspicious glare, narrowing my eyes as I tried to make sense of it all. He stood there, unmoving, studying me intently. Before his eyebrow twitched up, and a frown etched itself between his forehead. What is going on?
Is so confusing because his expression is blank apart from those frowns and I just can’t seem to make out if he was the one talking in my head. But how is that possible? It feels like I am about to run mad. Everything seems like a mind-bending puzzle and is driving me crazy.
“Emma,” Alma nervously tugged my fabric, her eyes darting between Aristide and me. “Why… is he… looking at you like that?” Her whispered words filled my ear with panic. But before I could utter a word, I sensed Aristide’s gaze shifting towards her, a clear indication that he had heard her.
She trembled and backed out again, seeking refuge behind me. If she asks me what’s going on, who exactly am I supposed to turn to for answers? Lately, strange things have been happening, and those unsettling looks he keeps giving me only add to the confusion. Lost in my thoughts, I suddenly noticed him squatting in front of me, our proximity uncomfortably close. “Ahh…” Alma flinched and immediately shrank away.
The atmosphere grew heavy, and I was taken aback by his sudden presence in front of me. His eyes roamed across my face and down my body, leaving me feeling uneasy. My eyebrow twitched in confusion as I observed him scrutinize my features. Then, out of nowhere, a small smirk appeared on his lips, contrasting with his otherwise blank expression. It sent a shiver down my spine.
My frown deepened, but he simply stood up, casting one final glance in my direction before walking away. I felt the urge to shout at him, to demand answers about the voice in my head. But when I opened my mouth, no words escaped. I turned to Alma, who was also watching me intently, her curiosity mirroring my own.
As I watched his figure vanish amidst the hallway walls, a heavy sigh escaped my lips. I mustered the strength to pull myself up, but Alma swiftly intervened, halting my movements. My teeth clenched together, and I turned to face her, frustration evident in my voice. “What now?”
“Really….. What was that for?” She asked me instead, coming to squat in front of me.
I arched an eyebrow in confusion. “Huh? What do you mean?” I asked, puzzled by her question
“I mean the way….. Don’t you see the way he stares at you? Or perhaps why were the two of you staring at each other for so long?” Alma questioned, her eyes filled with suspicion. She had definitely picked up on something peculiar.
Sighing, I only ask her the question that has been bothering me. “Did you hear him say anything?” I asked Alma, hoping she might have some insight into the situation.
But glaring at me, Alma let out a snort. “Of course, you two were just locked in a staring contest. The tension was so thick, I was waiting here forever for him to open his mouth, but the guy just had to make a quick, sly move in front of you, smirk, and walk away,” she complained, frustration evident in her hand gestures.
I looked at her and then stared away, so the voice was in my head. Then who is he? Who was talking in my head? That voice seems so powerful and demands respect. Who is he?
“Who the hell are you, you motherfucker?!” I screamed in my head, but as I opened my eyes, I was met with an eerie silence from Alma’s side and the hallway. I turned to Alma, perplexed by the strange expression on her face. Her eyes were wide, and her mouth hung open. “What?” I mumbled, feeling a mixture of confusion and tension.
She looked around cautiously and then locked eyes with me again. “Who were you yelling at?” she whispered, clearly horrified by my outburst.
“I… I didn’t say anything,” I quickly defended myself, my voice filled with uncertainty. But Alma arched her brow at me, glaring with suspicion.
“You straight up yelled, asking who the motherfucker is,” she replied, catching me completely off guard. So it wasn’t just in my head, she actually heard me… Great, now she’s probably going to think I’m crazy.
“I need to clean up,” I said, trying to brush off the conversation as I got up from the ground. But Alma, being her typical persistent self, wasn’t letting it slide. “Who was it?” she asked, giving me a scrutinizing look.
“Nobody,” I replied, bending down to pick up the mop from the floor.
“You just yelled at someone right now, Emma,” she retorted, mirroring my tone.
“None of your damn business, Alma, just back off!” I snapped, shooting her a fierce glare through gritted teeth.
“Nope, I ain’t leaving you alone,” she responded, matching my determined tone.
Really! Is she serious right now?
