Chapter 396 Nothing to Do with You

"Samantha, what do you mean by that? Are you saying my injury doesn't even matter?"

"Elain, I think you might be misunderstanding what it means to be hurt," Samantha replied, rolling up her sleeve. "This is what real injuries look like." Samantha's arm had a large patch of skin scraped off from an abrasion, making Elain's barely visible wound seem like making a mountain out of a molchill.

Elain glanced at Samantha's arm, "So because my injury isn't as severe as yours, that makes me a murderer?"

Samantha remained silent.

"Elain," she said finally, "the police already have all the evidence they need to prove you're guilty. What's the point of denying it? No matter how much you try to explain yourself, it won't change the fact that murderers always leave a trace, right?" Elain frowned. "But I didn't kill anyone! Even if the police found evidence, it's all fabricated."

"The stone used to hit me has your fingerprints on it, Elain."

Elain shook her head. "No, it wasn't me who hit you, so those fingerprints aren't mine. And even if they are, the real murderer must've planted them. My injury has nothing to do with yours, absolutely nothing."

As she spoke, she anxiously bit her fingernails, her behavior confirming Samantha's suspicions-Elain was sick.

With a look of disgust, Samantha said, "Elain, I'm thinking maybe you didn't actually hit me. But what if it was some other version of you hiding in there? Do you realize how sick you are? You're struggling with a mental illness-dissociative identity disorder. It wasn't your main personality that did the killing; it was the second one!"

Elain continued to bite her nails, then gave Samantha a chilling, twisted smile. "What are you talking about, Samantha? I don't understand a word. A second personality? Mental illness? Do you think I can't sue you for slandering me like this?"

Samantha's voice remained icy. "Elain, you should be clear whether I've personally attacked or slandered you. When your second personality takes over, you become dark and sinister. I had the same feeling when I tried to stop you from entering the cave, but you pushed forward anyway. The person standing here now -that's your second personality, isn't it?"

Elain burst out laughing at Samantha's words.

"You're clever, Elain admitted. "I do have dissociative identity disorder. But here's what you're missing- I'm the one who actually killed that person. I'm also the one who wanted to meet you. So, tell me, what can you do about it?"

"I can't," came Samantha's calm reply. "But the police can throw you behind bars."NôvelDrama.Org owns all © content.

Elain shook her head. "You're mistaken. The police can arrest me because I'm mentally ill. I have dissociative identity disorder, and as far as I know, people with such conditions aren't sent to prison-

Samantha fell silent for a moment before responding. You know, the psychiatric hospital might actually be worse than prison-it could make you wish you were dead."
