Chapter 27
CASSANDRA
“I don’t get it. Why do we keep a feud going, when we don’t even know what the hell it is for?”
She sighs at me. Aunt Josephine has been over this like a hundred times and I am not getting any closer to the answer to the question. “It is a matter of honor.”
“But you can’t even tell me who was really at fault. Neither guy marked her. So who is to say who she really belonged to. Plus what happened to her. I have been looking through the records here at the house and all I have found is a name, nothing about her death. How do we know that she didn’t just reject what’s his name and go with her true mate?”
“His name was Jedadia. It would do you well to remember it.”
“Still not answering my question.”
She pinches the bridge of her nose. “Maybe we should take a break tonight. I think I am getting a headache.”
I roll my eyes. “Alright, fine.”
I leave Aunt Josephine to her “headache”, code for I don’t want to answer your questions right now. Debating on if I should head to the spot again, just to be rejected for the fourth night in a row. I decided one last time won’t hurt. Ok it will probably hurt a lot, but I have to try.
Ducking out the back door without being seen has become second nature to me. When I make it to the tree line I am elated. He’s there. I quickly take a seat and close my eyes. I can hear him walk around me and then behind the tree. I hear bones cracking.
Finally I hear his voice and it sounds cold. “You can open your eyes.”
“Where have you been?”
“I don’t think we should do this anymore. I only came today to tell you in person.”
I am shocked. Stunned really. I guess what I have been feeling for a couple of days is correct. He doesn’t care about me. “Fine, I see how it is.”
“What?” He sounds angry.
“I get it Justin was right. You were just stringing me along. Wanted to see what you could get out of me without actually being in a relationship. Well, you found out didn’t you. Was that howl your buddy? Someone to get you out of here on time, before the dumb girl went too far.”Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
“NO! What the hell does it matter? I can smell Trey all over you. It’s not like you were waiting around for me.”
“Trey was there to comfort me when you ghosted me. You know what I did a lot for you. Even as far as not even knowing your real name. I did that because I respected your choices. I didn’t push, even though I thought the whole thing was bullshit. I defended you. You are just an asshole. I still don’t care about this stupid family feud thing, but I will tell you this. I hope your mate hates your guts.”
“Green.” He sounds like he is going to stop me, but I don’t care anymore.
“Go to hell Gray.” I stand up, not looking back and storm away. He doesn’t try to stop me again.
My brother still has my keys so I go straight to him. I need my keys to get where I want to go. Calab hands them over without protest. Well, he tried to find out what was wrong but I didn’t tell him. So he dropped it. Now I am going to the one person that I know will let me feel loved.
