Chapter 438
In a flash, a whirlwind of emotions flickered in Selena's eyes, and the joy on her face vanished like mist. Her hands clenched tighter, her lips trembling as she struggled to speak, "Where's Dr. Campbell?" The man's gaze was locked on her. She hadn't gone to such lengths to dress up for him in ages, but here she was, fully made up, hair perfectly styled, and wearing a dress that made her look downright dazzling like a flower in full bloom. And all for... a date with another man!
He was reminded of the early days of their marriage when he'd come home to find her looking beautiful, even if she had nowhere to go. While it was always a lovely sight, he never quite understood it, assuming it was just something women did because they loved beauty and enjoyed the fuss.
It was Jaime who later clued him in, explaining that every woman wants to look her best for the man she loves. The day she stops caring about her looks around you, when she's okay being messy and unkempt, that's when you're no longer in her heart. He hadn't realized it until now, but comparing then and now, his anger only grew hotter.
With a cold sneer, he delivered his harsh words, "Who else do you think would know your whereabouts? Your dear Dr. Campbell has sold you out."
Selena shot back without missing a beat, "Impossible!"
Everett's handsome face turned icy, his words laced with bitterness, "You trust him that much?"
Without a second thought, Selena replied, "I do!"
If Dr. Campbell were the type to betray her, he wouldn't have gotten involved from the start. When she was in labor, she trusted him with her and her baby's lives, and he had protected them well. She had unwavering faith in his character and integrity! A bond forged through life-and-death situations isn't something that can be broken with a few words.
Since Everett was the one who showed up, it seemed likely something had happened to Dr. Campbell, just like how he had swiftly dealt with Ava and Derick before.
She
couldn't help but feel a pang of
worry. Instinctively, Selena stepped closer to him, her lips pressed tight, "Everett, what have you done to Dr. Campbell? Don't do anything reckless..."
en
"Shut up!" Everett snapped, striding towards her and gripping her face tightly, his voice heavy with darkness.
"Selena, don't ever say his name again!"
Forced to look up at him, she could see his fury, raw and intense, the veins on his forehead pulsing, his eyes cold enough to cut through her.
It would be a lie to say she wasn't scared. Even though she was trying to keep her cool, the slight tremor in her body gave her away.
She didn't know what he had done
or
to Dr. Campbell. Nor did she know how much he had found out, including her whereabouts whether he knew about... Mateo!
That was her biggest fear.
But she couldn't just spill the beans and ask him outright, so she was desperate to get back in touch with Dr. Campbell to figure things out.
Fed up with arguing, in a moment of panic, she opened her mouth and bit down hard on his hand.
Instinctively, he loosened his grip from the pain.
She seized the chance to shove him away and dashed for the door.
But she underestimated Everett's quick reflexes. She had barely taken a step when his arm snaked around her waist, lifting her off the ground. The next moment, with the room spinning around her, she found herself tossed onto the bed. Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
Everett pinned her struggling hands beside her face, holding her firmly beneath him, his anger morphing into a bitter laugh.
